‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 2 Update Shared by Actor Shane Johnson

Fans of 'Power Book II: Ghost' are ready for new episodes. The show wrapped its first season in January and has since started production on season 2, but details have been scarce. However, actor Shane Johnson just shared some important details about the show, including when it might come out.

The anticipation for the second season of Power Book II: Ghost is at an all-time high, with fans eager to see what happens with Tariq St. Patrick following the events in the season 1 finale.

The TV show entered production shortly after it ended in January and is expected to come back in 2021. But it’s starting to seem like it could take longer. Offering an update on Power Book II: Ghost Season 2, actor Shane Johnson (Cooper Saxe) warns it might not come out as soon as some people hope.

‘Power Book II: Ghost’ has faced delays

As Express.co.uk notes, Johnson interviewed with the blog Tea with Tia about season 2 in April. As far as a release date, he mentioned that it’s hard to tell when it’ll come out, as the show had to make changes to its schedule due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Fans will remember that production on season 1 was paused due to the crisis, leading to a split season. Johnson says that delay impacted the rollout of future episodes.

“The truth is, COVID f*cked up our first season in terms of how we were going to originally release it,” he reportedly said. “We did five and five [episodes], and that was never the design. But because of COVID we got shut down for, like, five or six months.”

The show eventually returned to TV in December 2020 to air the remaining half of season 1. But Johnson doesn’t know if it’ll continue that format or if the next season will air ten consecutive episodes as previously planned.

“I feel like our schedule has just completely shifted because of COVID. So, I don’t know. I don’t know,” he continued. “I don’t know if they’re gonna try and get everything done, so they can do ten in a row like we typically do. Or if they’re gonna go, ‘These five are done, let’s try and get these out as soon as we can. Then we’ll do the other five later.’”

What to expect when ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ returns

Whenever the show comes back, you can bet on a lot of drama. Power Book II: Ghost notably left off with the murder of Professor Jabari Reynolds, which creator and showrunner Courtney Kemp admits will generate a “big” reaction on campus.

“Where we had begun an encroachment of his drug life into his school life with the incidents that took place in episode 8 with the attempt on his life and the body in the pool, now his whole drug life is crashed into his campus life in a real way,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “And Tariq definitely feels like he’s walking around as a ticking time bomb. His relationships are going to get more complicated, and while that’s all happening he’s still got a love life.”
