Prince William and Kate Middleton Prove Once Again Princess Diana Has a Major Influence on Their Parenting Style
Princess Diana’s legacy lives on.
Prince William, Duke and Cambridge and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex continue to carry on their late mother’s legacy. Not only has Diana influenced the work Harry and William do, she’s had a big impact on them as parents.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took to their social media accounts on June 6, 2020, to share a photo. In it, their kids Prince George and Princess Charlotte, are volunteering with them in honor of the U.K.’s Volunteers Week. Taken by Catherine, the photo posted to Instagram shows William, George, and Charlotte delivering meals in April 2020.
“In April, The Duke and Duchess and their family visited the Sandringham Estate where they packed up and delivered food parcels to isolated pensioners in the local area,” the caption says.
While the Cambridge family’s been self-isolating at their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, they are also giving back to the community.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are volunteering
Just a day earlier, William shared how he’s been spending his time when he’s not struggling to homeschool George and Charlotte. During a video call with volunteers, the Duke of Cambridge revealed he’s been volunteering too.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared a clip of the video call in an Instagram post on June 5, 2020. William confessed he’s secretly been putting in time as a volunteer for Shout85258, a crisis text line he and Catherine started in 2019 with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
As for the Duchess of Cambridge, she’s been taking part in “check-in and chat” calls with people in self-isolation, according to Express.
Princess Diana showed Princess William ‘the rawness of real life’
Bucking royal tradition, Diana took a hands-on parenting approach to raising William and Harry. She’d hug them at a time when royal mothers didn’t show much emotion toward their children. And she wasn’t afraid to show William and Harry life beyond palace walls. She took her sons to McDonald’s, amusement parks, and homeless shelters.
In a 2012 interview with Katie Couric, William explained just how big of an impact Diana had on him and Harry.
“She played a huge part in my life and Harry’s growing up, in how we saw things and how we experienced things,” William said. She very much wanted to get us to see the rawness of real life.
He continued: “And I can’t thank her enough for that, ’cause reality bites in a big way, and it was one of the biggest lessons I learned is, just how lucky and privileged so many of us are — particularly myself.”
William keeps showing just how much Diana has influenced the way he raises George, Charlotte, and Prince Louis. He and the Duchess of Cambridge talk about Diana with their kids. Plus, they use her parenting tips. More than anything else William and Catherine focus on giving their kids as normal an upbringing as possible.
