The Pioneer Woman made a classic favorite for dinner. Ree Drummond recently showed home cooks how to make her version of cheeseburger sliders. Here’s how to make this crowd-pleasing meal.

Drummond uses a method that’s a little different from the typical way sliders are made. “This is a really cool way to make a whole bunch of sliders at once,” says Drummond on The Pioneer Woman show. “Prepare to be amazed.”

Drummond starts by sautéing onions in vegetable oil. She then adds ground beef. Instead of forming the meat into individual patties, she cooks all the ground beef together and crumbles it as she goes. Drummond cooks the beef for about 4 minutes until it’s completely brown.

Next, she adds Worcestershire sauce and pepper. She says she wants the ground beef to be flavorful. Drummond says home cooks can add their own ingredients to spruce up the flavor. Some suggestions she gives are hot sauce or barbecue sauce.

After cooking the ground meat, Drummond makes a sauce for the sliders. She makes a mixture of mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard for the sauce. She says home cooks can add hot sauce or barbecue sauce to the mixture.

Preparing the cheeseburger sliders

Drummond uses rolls for the sliders. Since they come stuck together in a package, she cuts the bread through the middle, puts them in a pan, and toasts them in the oven until they start to get brown. She puts all the sauce on top of the bread, spreading it to make sure it gets out to the edges. Next, Drummond sprinkles grated cheddar jack on top of the bread and adds the ground beef.

She says what she’s making is “like one big sandwich.” Her plan is to bake the meat, bread, and cheese, and cut the bread into individual sliders. Then Drummond adds the rest of cheese and some pickles. She likes to add a slice of pickle to each section. She presses the pickles into the meat and then adds some olive oil to the top of the bread.

“I am not content to put naked buns in the oven,” jokes Drummond. “I have to doctor them up. Naked buns are not my thing.” Next, she adds everything bagel seasoning to the buns. The seasoning makes the buns look a little like a pretzel once it comes out of the oven, “It just kind of gives the buns a little interest,” says Drummond.

The Pioneer Woman cooks the buns in the oven at 375 degrees. She keeps the sliders in the oven until the cheese melts. For the next step, Drummond runs a knife through the bread and separates the sliders.

Feed a crowd with Ree Drummond’s cheeseburger sliders

The best part about Drummond’s cheeseburger sliders is that they’re quick and easy to make. Erin Merhar and Kara Zauberman, contributors to The Pioneer Woman website, say sliders are the perfect meal for feeding a group of people.

“You won’t even need to spend time forming individual patties or standing over a sweltering grill,” they write. “Instead, the ground meat is cooked on the stovetop and layered onto small dinner rolls—it’s just like sloppy joes, but with all the flavors of your favorite cheeseburger recipe.”
