Rihanna and A$AP Rocky Went on a Cross-Country Road Trip Together During the Pandemic
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have become one of music’s hottest power couples since the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The pandemic actually ended up being something that brought them even closer, as the two music icons travelled across the United States on an epic road trip at the height of the pandemic.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky first crossed paths at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. Rocky was joining Rihanna for a performance of her hit single “Cockiness,” and halfway through the number, Rocky tried to be slick and pulled a move on her.
“He grabbed my a** on stage. That was not part of the rehearsal!” she reflected in a 2022 interview for Vogue. “I was like, ‘What are you doing!?’” But instead of getting upset, she let it go. “My manager was like, Oh, God, she must like this guy a little bit. She never lets this s*** slide.”
They remained close friends for years, and eventually became an item after Rihanna broke up with her ex-boyfriend, Hassan Jameel, in early 2020.

After the world went into COVID lockdowns, Rihanna and Rocky grew even closer. “He became my family in that time,” she mused.
Part of their bonding included a cross-country road trip in summer 2020 from Los Angeles to New York. They took a large tour bus across the country and were able to escape the public eye as they roughed it like everyday people.
Rihanna looks back fondly on grilling barefoot while Rocky would tie-dye T-shirts he’d picked up at the gas station. “I cooked our food on this little janky grill I bought from Walmart,” she recalled. “I still have it, too. It works like nobody’s business.”
Ultimately, she couldn’t have been happier with the experience, and it showed her just how much she valued Rocky in her life. “I love the simple things but also the grand adventures,” she said honestly. “There’s no pretentious my-brand-your-brand bulls***; it’s just us living. I just feel like I can do any part of life by his side.”

In early 2022, Rihanna and Rocky shocked the world when she revealed that she was having a baby with him. While it’s been a challenge to juggle everything, she’s been learning a lot about herself and how she operates along the way.
“Balance is one of my biggest challenges and always has been,” she admitted. “And now there’s another human being coming into play, it changes what that means again. Still, I have businesses that aren’t going to run themselves. My mom handled the three of us with not even close to the amount of resources that I have, so I can absolutely do it. What it looks like? I’m not sure.”
What Rihanna is most excited for is to see just how she and Rocky’s child is going to navigate the world around them. “They’re going to teach me more than I could ever teach them. And I want them to go for it. I want to see who they are in the world, who they become,” she concluded. “Because I’m just here to keep them on the rails — a passenger as much as the driver.”
