Rihanna isn’t just known for her chart-topping hits, she’s also known for her amazing fashion sense. Of course, she’s a designer these days but even before the Barbadian beauty had her own clothing line she was winning fashion awards. In fact, one of the singer‘s most memorable looks ever was the Swarovski naked dress she donned when she accepted the CFDA Fashion Icon of the Year Award in 2014.

While many fans thought she looked amazing, the dress did cause some controversy and drew comments from two icons in the music industry. Here’s more on that, plus what Rihanna really wishes she could change about wearing the dress that night.

How many people it took to make Rihanna’s dress

As you probably guessed creating the head-turning outfit was no small feat. In an interview with Elle, Adam Selman, who designed the famous dress revealed how many people it took to make it, how many crystals they used, and how much it weighed.

“The final count ended up being over 230,000 crystals,” he stated. “I took fishnet fabric and the crystals were all hand applied by my amazing team. We started [applying them] on Memorial Day. It took so much longer than expected. We had people [adding crystals] ’round the clock until 3 p.m. the day of the event. It took 20 people to get it done. A lot of them didn’t sleep! It was an amazing accomplishment and team effort. The effect was surprisingly lightweight and liquid.”

Selman added, “It was just important to make this moment major and have the fashion world take notice. And come on! Lighten up people. She looked incredible in every curve of her glory.”

Rihanna said she regrets not having this to go with the naked dress

Rihanna spoke to Vogue in 2016 about the reason she chose not to wear a bra with the dress. “I just liked it better without the lines underneath,” she said.

The “Umbrella” songbird added that she does have one big regret about her attire that night.

“Could you imagine the CFDA dress with a bra?” she asked. “I would slice my throat. I already wanted to for wearing a thong that wasn’t bedazzled. That’s the only regret I have in my life.”

These 2 stars criticized RiRi’s fashion choice and she fired back

Wearing such a bold outfit wasn’t without controversy and two music icons didn’t hold back when asked their thoughts about entertainers who use sex to sell their music.

On the Australian talk show titled Sunrise on Friday, Tionne Watkins better known as T-Boz from the ’90s girl group TLC had this to say: “Every time I see you, you don’t have to be naked… It’s easy to sell sex. It’s hard for us to say anything because any time we do, they say, ‘Oh TLC must be jealous’, but I call a spade a spade.”

Her bandmate Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas added: “We sold and became the biggest girl selling group of all time, with our clothes on… That says a lot. It’s easy to sell sex.”

The Irish Mirror noted that Rihanna must have heard about what they said because soon after they made those remarks the B*tch Better Have My Money hitmaker responded via social media. She fired back by posting a snap of the ladies actually posing topless and saved it as her Twitter background.

According to Yahoo, T-Boz and Chilli later claimed that they were not referring to RiRi’s leave-almost-nothing-to-the-imagination gown in the interview and what they said was taken out of context.
