RM was surprised about BTS’ nomination

The Recording Academy announced the nominations for the 2021 Grammy Awards on Nov. 24, 2020. RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook watched the announcement of the nominations and later posted a video of their reaction on Twitter.

On Let’s BTS, RM shared more details about the day he learned BTS received a Grammy Award nomination.

“It was the most surprising moment of my life. A lot of the major categories had passed by, and just as I thought that we wouldn’t be nominated for a main award, ‘Dynamite’ came up right in the middle. I really threw my phone. Our parents told us that their hearts used to skip a beat when we first came on the news,” RM said according to Soompi.

“It was to the point that even my grandmother talked about it,” J-Hope said.

How the BTS members prepared for their Grammy performance

BTS were nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Dynamite” along with J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny, and Tainy for “UN DIA (ONE DAY),” Justin Bieber and Quavo with “Intentions,” Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande for “Rain On Me,” and Taylor Swift and Bon Iver for “exile.”

The Best Pop/Duo Group Performance award was announced during the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony, a livestream held before the main awards show. During the 2021 Grammy Awards on March 14, BTS were one of the last acts to perform.

“We thought we would definitely appear first, so we were waiting, but we came out at the end,” Jimin said on Let’s BTS.

Jin also shared what it was like filming the iconic performance.

“We filmed the performance in Yeouido and RM said that we should do well because this was something our grandchildren and great-grandchildren would see,” he said according to Soompi. “Even if it was just a small mistake, we would keep working hard. We had planned for about two hours, but it ended up being around four to five hours.”

RM hopes BTS will gain more popularity after the Grammy Awards

Over the past few years, BTS have become a household name in the world of music and pop culture. While they lost the Grammy Award to Lady Gaga and Ariana with “Rain On Me,” their performance of “Dynamite” was a standout.

Going forward, RM hopes that BTS will receive even more recognition thanks to their Grammy nomination and performance.

“We focused on the fact that there are only about 20 teams who get solo performances [at the Grammys]. I think that we’re satisfied with the first bite. Now that we’ve made our mark, I think that the public consciousness of us will rise,” RM said on Let’s BTS.
