Rob Lowe Was a ‘Horny Young Man’ According to ‘Little House on the Prairie’ Star Melissa Gilbert

Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert and Rob Lowe used to be romantically involved when they were both young actors. Gilbert says Lowe was quite a character back then, and she describes him in her book as “a horny young man.” Here’s why.

Gilbert and Lowe met while she was at a taping of The Dinah Shore Show. In her book Prairie Tale, she says Lowe waited in the hallway in the hopes of bumping into her. According to Gilbert, Lowe placed a script under his arm so she would know he was an actor.

Apparently, Lowe didn’t need to tuck a script under his arm to be noticed. He caught Gilbert’s eye. She described him as “cute, sweet, and funny.” She goes one step further and says he was so attractive that he was “almost pretty.”

Lowe and Gilbert eventually got in touch and went on their first date. Gilbert says she fell for him almost right away. She doesn’t remember much about what they did on their date, but she does remember how she felt when she was around him.

“All I remember is that I felt like I got hit in the head with a brick,” wrote Gilbert. “I fell instantly, hopelessly, and stupidly in love.”

Rob Lowe was ‘a horny young man’ according to Melissa Gilbert

One thing Gilbert remembers about her time with Lowe was that he had a high sex drive. In Prairie Tale, she says she agreed with the late director Tony Richardson’s assessment that Lowe was “horny.” She also says he enjoyed it when young women would visit him on the sets of his movies. Gilbert describes the time he was on a movie set and he opened the door of his dressing room, giving the ladies a peek at his naked body.

According to Gilbert, he gave the young women a “full frontal flash” when he opened the door so he could ask his wardrobe coordinator where his clothes were. Gilbert says the police had to be called so that they could clear the dressing room.

Gilbert says the late Joel Schumacher, who directed Lowe in the film St. Elmo’s Fire affectionately described him as “the shameless creature.” The Little House on the Prairie star says his assessment was honest, funny, and true. She says Lowe didn’t have any shame when it came to admiring himself or allowing others to admire him.

Gilbert also wrote about being intimate with Lowe. They had sex soon after they started dating. She described being “hungry” for Lowe, saying she wanted him so badly that she felt like she wanted to “bite him.”

According to the Laura Ingalls actor, their time together was intense. Gilbert says Lowe “wouldn’t let” her close her eyes during sex. He preferred for her to have her eyes wide open.
