Robert Downey Jr. – well known for playing Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – is worth an estimated $300 million, according to Wealthy Gorilla. Robert Downey Jr. started playing Iron Man in 2008. On the first film, he made $500,000; however, this is merely pennies when compared to his later salaries.

Robert Downey Jr. owns some expensive property

Robert Downey Jr. owns a $3.8 million home in Malibu. With an ocean view, three bedrooms, and three bathrooms, the house is relatively modest according to RDJ’s standards, says Architectural Digest. However, featuring a pool, a hot tub, a fire pit, and an entertainment area, the home has all that Tony Stark could need, including a little extra space for all of his suits.

Robert Downey Jr. also owns a home in the Hamptons. Back in 2017, RDJ purchased and remodeled the historic DeRose Windmill House. Taking its old-fashioned look and modernizing it (while retaining the landmark vibe), RDJ brought the house into the 21st century.

How much does Robert Downey Jr. make off of Marvel?

Robert Downey Junior, up to this point, has starred in eight MCU films and will appear in his ninth, Avengers: Endgame, on April 26. And, let’s just say, this man can retire after Endgame (if he so pleases).

Robert Downey Junior made a $10 million salary for The Avengers, Iron Man 3, and Avengers: Age of Ultron, according to Verdict. However, this does not include his payout for the films’ profits (more on this to come). Because Marvel negotiates a fixed contract, that usually covers six films, RDJ made $10 million in base pay for most of the MCU films that he appeared in; however, there have been exceptions.

According to Verdict, Captain America: Civil War resulted in RDJ’s largest payout. Downey made $40 million in salary and $5 million for beating Winter Soldier.

It’s likely that Captain America: Civil War was not a part of his contract, as he was initially slated to have a smaller role. It’s estimated that RDJ made $15 million in salary for Homecoming and, once again, made $10 million for Infinity War (which was part of his contract).

Now, let’s get to the good stuff: how much RDJ made once the films reached record-breaking box office sales?

According to Verdict, RDJ made the following estimates in film profits: $29 million from The Avengers, $22 million from Iron Man 3, $25 million from Avengers: Age of Ultron, $10.25 million from Infinity War, and $18.75 million from Civil War. While the film’s continue to make more money as time goes on, their budgets substantially increase in accordance; thus, RDJ’s payout doesn’t just skyrocket.

What about ‘Avengers: Endgame?’

How Much Robert Downey Jr. will earn for Avengers: Endgame remains to be seen, as many expect this film to be the highest earning film ever made. However, it is likely part of his contract and will result in a $10 million salary.

Adding it all together, Robert Downey Jr. has made approximately $200 million from Marvel alone thus far. Talk about a successful franchise. Who would’ve known, the man who started it all with 2008’s Iron Man would come to be the highest-earning member in the Avengers. And he doesn’t even have any powers!
