Charlize Theron has had a few high-profile relationships in the spotlight, from Stuart Townsend to Sean Penn. But nowadays the actor revealed she isn’t in too much of a rush to find her soulmate.

“I’ve been on a few, like, dates, but I haven’t dated anybody for over 5 years,” Theron once confided on The Drew Barrymore Show. “I mean, I’m open when friends of mine are like, ‘You should go on a date, you should meet this guy,’ I’m always open. But it is like I feel like I’m in a place in my life where you’ve got to come with a lot of game.”

Theron then elaborated what it would take for a potential partner to swoop her off her feet.

“Not the kind of game that we think of, the kind of game that’s like my life is really good, so you better be able to bring that and maybe better. Because I just won’t accept anything less,” Theron shared. “And my life with my children, and my incredible adopted family that I have around me, I don’t long for that much.”

Why romantic comedies used to leave Charlize Theron feeling bitter

According to Irish Examiner, Charlize Theron was nervous about making romantic comedies. The Oscar-winner dipped her toe in the genre by featuring in the film Long Shot with Seth Rogen. She explained that her motivation for the rom-com was to depict a genuine relationship between a contemporary couple.

“I just wanted to make sure that we would have two characters that felt modern and that we would focus on a relationship that felt real,” Theron said.

But one of the reasons Theron quipped she wanted to do a romantic comedy is that she finds the genre challenging. Specifically, Theron can’t help comparing romcoms to her own personal life.

“I struggle with that sometimes in romantic comedies,” Theron later added. “I feel like I’m the only loser who has never experienced the third act of most romantic comedies and it just makes me feel very bitter. So I just wanted to feel like I could bring something to the table and I think it’s hard for me to do that kind of fantasy love stuff.”

Why Charlize Theron never wanted to get married

Charlize Theron has confessed several times that she doesn’t see marriage in her future. So far, it seems that the Mad Max star has stuck to her guns in that regard.

“I haven’t been in a relationship for a very long time. I never wanted to get married,” she told Glamour. “Those are things that are not hard for me, because they’re innately my truth. I find people are somewhat perplexed by that, and also more with women, right?”

Theron has also reiterated that point while visiting The Howard Stern Show.
