Schitt’s Creek may have ended its successful run recently, but fans still have plenty of great episodes to look back on. It’s also left many of its loyal fan base feeling hopeful that it may have a revival.

The show’s ending was rather final, but that doesn’t mean they can’t dream. Recent comments by star Annie Murphy could be interpreted by optimistic fans as leaving the door open for a comeback. But what exactly did she say? Let’s take a closer look at Murphy’s run on the show and what she said to make fans of the show hopeful for a return.

Annie Murphy helped make ‘Schitt’s Creek’ a great show

Schitt's Creek Season 6
L-R: Catherine O’Hara, Annie Murphy, Eugene Levy, Dan Levy | Pop TV

According to IMDb, Murphy has appeared in plenty of other projects outside Schitt’s Creek. She’s also been in Flashpoint, Blue Mountain State, The Story of Jen, and Rookie Blue.

In Schitt’s Creek, she portrayed the daughter of Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara’s character, Alexis. She received a nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy at the Canadian Screen Awards. The show is very much an ensemble, but there’s no doubt that it wouldn’t be the same without Murphy.

Along with her hilarious turn on the show, she also wrote and produced a web series called The Plateaus. She’s an Ottawa native who currently lives in Toronto.

‘Schitt’s Creek’ was one of the best comedies of the last decade

According to IMDb, Schitt’s Creek ran from 2015-2020. It centered on the family of Johnny Rose, a video store magnate, and Moira Rose, a former soap opera actor.

The duo has lived a spoiled existence, spending extravagantly. They’ve spoiled their adult children, David and Alexis, never making either work for a thing.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and the family goes broke overnight. They’re left with only one thing in their possession: a small town called Schitt’s Creek they had bought years prior as a goof.

While the Roses own the town, it’s the Schitt family that founded and operated it. The family attempts to acclimate to life in this small town with hilarious results.

Murphy told US Weekly that she thought the ending was perfect for the characters of Alexis and her boyfriend on the show, Ted, in which the two split up. It may not have been a perfectly happy ending, but Murphy acknowledged that it made sense and left both in a better place:

“I do think that it was the right ending….As sad as it was to say goodbye to both Ted and to Dustin, I think it was the right thing for Alexis. I think she was on a pretty exciting trajectory career-wise and I really think no world in which she didn’t take, or she won’t take the PR world by storm and continue having the most wild and bizarre and celebrity-studded adventures at the same time.”

That said, Murphy didn’t close the door on a reunion between the two:

“I hold out hope…I think that maybe it would be one of those relationships where they let each other go and thought it was final and then maybe drift into each other’s worlds down the road.”

Does Murphy’s comment leave the door open for more Schitt’s Creek? The answer is probably not. While Murphy was speaking about a hypothetical reunion between the two characters, she said nothing about fans seeing it on screen.

The show had such a perfect ending that adding more episodes could only cheapen the way it stuck the landing. It’s certainly fun to imagine this pair getting back together, but in fans’ minds is where that reunion will likely have to occur. The chances of a comeback are somewhere between slim and none.
