As many Marvel fans know, Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie have been in a pretend feud with Tom Holland since they worked together in Captain America: Civil War. They often tease the Spider-Man actor like big brothers taunting their little brother. But in a shocking turn of events, Stan praised Holland regarding the making of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' stars Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie speak onstage during a convention with Tom Holland. Stan wears a dark blue sweater and jeans. Holland wears a black shirt and jeans. Mackie wears a dark gray shirt, jeans, and a black baseball cap.

Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie starred in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, both Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan, and Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, were unsure of what they should do without their best friend, Steve Rogers. Bucky and Sam never warmed up to one another in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, but their love for Steve was one thing they had in common. And The Falcon and the Winter Soldier forced them together without the help of Steve.

Steve wanted Sam to take on the mantle of Captain America, but wielding the stars and stripes was a lot more complicated for Sam. So, he turned it down. And as a result, the government chose a new Captain America, one that was not worthy of the shield. Enraged at Sam for not following Steve’s wishes, Bucky confronted him. And as the series went on, they grew closer as they had to work together to take down a terrorist group.

In the finale of the Marvel Disney+ series, Sam finally embraced his destiny as Captain America with Bucky by his side. Now, Captain America 4, starring Anthony Mackie, is in the works, but it’s unclear if Sebastian Stan would appear in the film.

Sebastian Stan admits that he has Tom Holland to thank for the Marvel Disney+ show

During an interview with Vanity Fair, Sebastian Stan discussed some of his more famous films, including Captain America: Civil War.

“I was the first person to fight Spider-Man in the MCU, Tom Holland, I mean, that figures, right? I guess we helped him out,” Stan shared. “It was so weird and wild because it was such a funny moment with, sort of, [Holland] catching the arm and the punch and everything. And Anthony and I, sort of, having to come together.”

The actor added, “Basically, Anthony and I got a show because of Tom Holland. I guess that’s, like, what I’m realizing now as I’m talking, which is something I’d really hate for him to know — Tom, that is, not Anthony.”

So, Sebastian Stan believes that he and Anthony Mackie got to do The Falcon and the Winter Soldier because of that airport scene in Captain America: Civil War with Tom Holland. Of course, Stan hated to admit that, but we’re grateful either way.

Will Bucky return to the MCU?

Fans will likely see Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes in the MCU again. However, we, unfortunately, do not know when or where that will be.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, Stan claimed he doesn’t know what Marvel has in store for Bucky’s future. He said, “I don’t, I really don’t. I haven’t known that for 10 plus years, I always am very happy when I get to live another day, hopefully before I get too old. We’ll see. Anything is possible.”

Given his history with Wakanda, it’s possible that Stan is lying and that Bucky appears in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Or, perhaps, the Winter Soldier will star alongside his new friend in Captain America 4.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is available to stream on Disney+.
