Seinfeld fans have spoken. They think George Costanza is the most immoral character to grace the screen during the show’s epic, nine-seaosn run. Jason Alexander, the actor who played George for all nine seasons, doesn’t agree. He isn’t taking the news lightly, either. Alexander took to his own Twitter account to state who he thinks is actually the most immoral.

‘Seinfeld’ fans cast their votes about immorality

The famous show’s YouTube account often engages fans by asking them questions and posting polls. A recent survey asked fans who they thought the most immoral character truly was. We would have thought it would have been a close race. After all, each of the four main characters and many supporting characters were selfish and mean. Surprisingly It isn’t close.

Apparently, Seinfeld fans agree that George Costanza is the most immoral character of the bunch. So far, a staggering 63% of respondents voted for George. The rest of the votes are divided among Elaine Benes, Jerry Seinfeld, Cosmo Kramer, and Jerry and Kramer’s neighbor, Newman.

Jason Alexander thinks Newman was the most immoral

Jason Alexander spent nine seasons playing George. While he doesn’t seem to be under any delusion that George was an upstanding guy, he still appeared salty over the distinction. Shortly after seeing the poll results, Alexander took to Twitter to offer commentary.

Alexander was shocked that Seinfeld fans considered his character so much more immoral than even Newman. Newman was the voter’s second choice, garnering 15% of all votes so far. His shock is well placed, though. After all, Newman was presented as a villain in Seinfeld. Apparently, fans don’t see it that way. Voting is still open, so things could still change.

‘Seinfeld’ fans seem in agreement that Elaine was the most moral

Alexander might not agree with what fans think about his character or Newman, but he has remained mostly quiet about the other results of the poll. According to fans, Elaine Benes clocks in as the most moral. Only 6% of voters thought she was the most immoral. Jerry and Cosmo Kramer are tied for second place. Both characters received just 8% of the votes each.

While Elaine did seem to choose the moral high ground more often than her pals, she wasn’t exactly an upstanding citizen, and she certainly wasn’t a nice person. Elaine stole a $29,000 piece of cake. She purposefully got her coworker sick by coughing on her things. Elaine was also responsible for putting the Soup Nazi out of business and getting Babu deported. Her track record was far from clean.
