Sex and the City fans have a lot to discuss over the coming months. The cult-classic HBO series is getting a 10-part revival that is set to debut on HBO Max in late 2021.

With no exact release date or plot points yet released, many fans are speculating intensely, wondering when they will be able to learn more about the exciting, top-secret project. In spite of the secrecy surrounding the reboot, titled And Just Like That, fans do know some of the actors who will be appearing in the show — and not only will the series feature some familiar faces, but some thrilling new ones as well.

In January 2021, showrunners at HBO announced that And Just Like That… would be debuting on the streaming platform HBO Max sometime in late 2021. The 10-part project will serve as an extension of the iconic Sex and the City series and is described by showrunners in the announcement as being about Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York as “they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.”

Many of the original stars of Sex and the City will be returning for And Just Like That, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Chris Noth, Mario Cantone, Willie Garson, David Eigenberg, and Evan Handler. Additionally, John Corbett has been attached to the project to reprise his role as Aiden Shaw, Carrie’s former flame.

It won’t just be familiar faces who will be starring in And Just Like That. In May 2021, it was announced that comedian and actress Sara Ramirez will be featured in the show. Ramirez will be playing Che Diaz, who is described as “a nonbinary, queer stand-up comedian who hosts a podcast on which Carrie Bradshaw is regularly featured…Che is a big presence with a big heart whose outrageous sense of humor and progressive, human overview of gender roles has made them and their podcast very popular.”

The inclusion of Ramirez promises a bold new direction for the franchise, which has been criticized in the past for having too narrow of a focus. With all of these exciting developments, however, there is one star who fans will not be seeing in And Just Like That

Kim Cattrall, who played the hilariously progressive Samantha Jones in Sex and the City, will not be returning to reprise the role of Samantha in And Just Like That. Cattrall’s history with the show has been fraught, to say the least. In 2017, Cattrall opened up to Piers Morgan, saying that she had no interest in ever playing the character of Samantha again, admitting that she has grown out of the role.

Cattrall has also fueled rumors of a feud between her and Sarah Jessica Parker, claiming that Parker could have been friendlier to her during the filming of Sex and the City, and admitting that they were never really close. In the months since And Just Like That was announced, Cattrall has doubled down on the fact that she won’t be returning as Samantha, all while insisting that she has nothing but love for the character of Samantha. Ultimately, while fans will have a lot to look forward to when the new show debuts, they will have to reconcile themselves with the absence of Samantha Jones.
