HBO Max has officially renewed And Just Like That… for a second season. The divisive Sex and the City reboot has been the streaming service provider’s most successful piece of original content thus far. It makes sense. A ton of viewers essentially grew up with Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York. Sarah Jessica Parker grew up with the character, too. She has been portraying Carrie Bradshaw for more than 20 years. Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis have been equally dedicated to their roles.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis will take on their signature roles at least one more time. The announcement ensures Parker and her co-stars will get a chance to tack on one more year to their lengthy character tenures. Parker, Nixon, and Davis first took on the roles of Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte, respectively, in 1998.

The original series wrapped in 2004, but the trio and Kim Cattrall returned for Sex and the City: The Movie four years later. In 2010 Sex and the City 2 was released. In January 2021, Davis, Parker, and Nixon announced that they’d be returning to their iconic roles for a reboot. HBO Max aired season one of the reboot in December 2021. All told, Parker, Nixon, and Davis have spent 24 years, off and on, in their respective roles.

How old was Sarah Jessica Parker when ‘Sex and the City’ started?

The first season of And Just Like That… has been heavily criticized by fans of the original series. One of their biggest issues with the show was the way the writers chose to highlight Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte’s ages. While the trio is only in their 50s, they were given the ailments and concerns of much older women.

To be fair, the original series was focused on age, too. Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte were all in their early 30s when the series began. Samantha Jones, who did not appear in the reboot, was a decade older. The actors’ portrayal of women in their 30s and 40s was so realistic because they were women living in New York in their 30s and 40s in their real lives, too. According to The Bowery Boys, Parker grew up on Roosevelt Island. While she briefly left New York City for Los Angeles, she didn’t stay gone for long. Parker has spent decades living in Manhattan with her husband, Matthew Broderick, and their three children. Sarah Jessica Parker was 33 when the series began. Her character, Carrie, was 32.

Kim Cattrall was older than her costars and so was her character

Cynthia Nixon, who has spent decades playing Miranda Hobbes, was 32 when she first took on the character. In the decades since the start of Sex and the City, Nixon’s character has undergone many changes. Kristin Davis, the actor who took on the role of Charlotte York, was 33 at the start of the series.

Kim Cattrall, now 65, was 41 when she first portrayed Samantha Jones. Samantha was supposed to be roughly a decade older than her best pals in Sex and the City. The age difference was no big deal in the show but may have played into Catrall’s feud with her co-star in real life. Cattrall opted not to return for the HBO Max reboot. Samantha Jones was mentioned several times, though.
