Sarah Jessica Parker starred in Sex and the City. Throughout the show’s six seasons, she played Carrie Bradshaw. While viewers watched her character fall in (and out) of love, they also admired the New Yorker’s fashion sense.

In May 2017, the Hocus Pocus star spoke about Carrie’s infamous wardrobe and if she still has her nameplate necklace.

Sarah Jessica Parker started wearing the necklace during season 2 of ‘Sex and the City’

Sex and the City premiered on HBO on June 6, 1998. The series followed Carrie and her friends, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis). It soon became a hit, and its fans soon wanted to look like the show’s protagonist. They yearned for her iconic Manolo Blahniks, her Dior handbags, and, of course, her “Carrie” necklace.

Although the show became a hit in season 1, the characters needed work in the style department. So, they hired Patricia Field as Sex and the City’s costume director for season 2. The stylist captured each character’s personality when she selected their on-screen outfits. She told Instyle in April 2015 that she found the inspiration for Carrie’s nameplate necklace while at her New York boutique.

“I have a shop in New York City, and a lot of the kids in the neighborhood wore them,” she said. “I thought, ‘Maybe I’ll show it to Sarah Jessica, and she’ll like the idea.’ She did, and she made it happen. It became a universal, long-lasting thing.”

How Sarah Jessica Parker almost lost the necklace

Parker continued to wear the “Carrie” necklace throughout the rest of Sex and the City. Her character soon became known for wearing the accessory. The piece was a storyline for the HBO hit’s series finale, which first premiered on February 22, 2004. In the episode, Carrie left New York to be with her new boyfriend, Aleksandr Petrovsky (Mikhail Baryshnikov), in Paris. She briefly lost the necklace in one scene.

While at Vulture Fest in May 2017, Parker asked multiple Sex and the City-related questions. One of the questions that came up was if she still owns the nameplate accessory. She shared at the festival that she still has the necklace. However, like her character, the actor almost lost the piece when Parker worked on the second SATC movie.

“I have the ‘Carrie’ necklace still,” she said, per The Cut. “I love it, and it’s tucked away somewhere safe.”

The First Wives Club actor also said that she panicked when she lost the necklace and admitted her reaction was worse than Carrie’s.

“I wish I could play that scene again because now that I’ve lived through it, I’d do a much better job,” she said.

Will the necklace be in the ‘Sex and the City’ reboot?

On January 10, 2021, Parker revealed that a reboot of Sex and the City would premiere on HBO Max. The show, And Just Like That… Nixon and Davis are also reviving their characters, while Cattrall opted not to participate.

“I couldn’t help but wonder… where are they now? X, SJ @HBOMax @JustLikeThatMax #AndJustLikeThat #SATCNextChapter,” she wrote on Instagram.

It’s unclear if the actor will bring back her iconic character’s necklace for the new installment. However, she wore it in both films, Sex and the City and Sex and the City 2, so anything is possible.
