Shadow and Bone debuted on Netflix in late April 2021, and it’s already getting an explosive response. The series, which is based on Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels, follows Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), an unremarkable orphan-turned map-maker. In a quest to remain close to her best friend,  Malyen “Mal” Oretsev (Archie Renaux), Alina inadvertently unleashes an extraordinary power that could free her country from the menacing fold that has split the country in half for centuries.

Fans are beyond thrilled by the fantasy, drama, and science-fiction that blend so beautifully to bring Shadow and Bone to life. Though Alina is named The Sunbringer, things don’t exactly pan out as she hopes at the end of season 1.

Here’s what we know about a possible season 2 of Shadow and Bone.

‘Shadow and Bone’ Season 2 release date

At the end of the first season of Shadow and Bone, Mal and Alina part ways with the Crows. Most of the country of Ravkan assumes that Alina is dead and she and Mal want to keep it that way.

Also, we saw General Kirigan (Ben Barnes), aka the Darkling, attempt to expand his powers by using the Morozova Stag. However, things don’t turn out as he hoped, and it appears that the force of the powers actually kills him. (As it turns out, the general survives, but no one knows that yet.)

Since Shadow and Bone Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger, fans are desperate to know what happens next. Unfortunately, Netflix has not yet renewed the series. Post-production of season 1 was seriously slowed down amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which means if Netflix does renew the show, it might not return until late 2022.

‘Shadow and Bone’ Season 2 plot details

The first season of Shadow and Bone was based on Bardugo’s first Grisha book of the same name. This means that season 2 will probably follow the events of the second book of the trilogy, Siege and Storm.

The book follows Alina and Mal after they run away, and Alina tries to hide from her destiny as the Sun Summoner while General Kirigan, aka The Darkling, wields a terrifying new power.

We will also see more of the Crows in Season 2, but their storylines come from the books, Six of Crows (2015), Crooked Kingdom (2016), King of Scars (2019), and Rule of Wolves (2021).
