How Shakira stays in shape

Shakira, like every other celebrity, singer, and athlete who relies on their appearance to earn a living, basically gets paid to stay in shape, to be her ultimate physically fit self.

“I try to eat healthy,” she told Women’s Health in 2014. “And I try to exercise. Not only going to the gym, because sometimes I do get tired of the treadmill. So I recently decided to just do sports, because they’re so much fun and they accomplish the same purpose. I play basketball, I play tennis, every day it’s something different. That seemed to put me back in shape.”

“I love food and enjoy eating. I always have fruit every day of my life. I have to have a piece of fruit or two or three or four,” the Waka Waka singer laughed. “Guilty pleasures? I have a few! Chocolate and candies, sweets.”

She’s working with trainer Anna Kaiser to get in tiptop shape for Super Bowl LIV

The soon-to-be 43-year-old (her birthday is the same day as the Super Bowl!) works out regularly with celebrity trainer Anna Kaiser and she’s stepped up her game for the upcoming Big Game.

Kaiser seems as excited about the halftime show as Jennifer Lopez and Shakira must be, posting on her Instagram account, “Pssst… Miami here I come! The final countdown is ON . . . 24 days until the @shakira concert. . . oops I mean the Super Bowl!”

The choreographer and trainer explains that in order for Shakira to get ready for the halftime show, which, in reality, is a burst of intense activity lasting about ten minutes, she has the artist do “choreographed dance sections and strength intervals. We’ll do dance, upper body circuit, dance, lower body circuit, dance, core circuit, cool down.”

They shoot each time to burn 500 calories at the very least in each workout. “We usually surpass that goal, but that’s our baseline. We need to get there.”

Shakira’s trick that keeps her from craving sugar

The Whenever, Wherever singer relies on her tried-and-true method for keeping those killer sugar cravings at bay. It’s so simple, but makes so much sense. It’s soup.

Kaiser, who also advises Shakira on how to eat for optimal fitness, told E! News she has the singer eat “breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a protein in every meal and fresh veggies or small amounts of low glycemic fruit.”

For her afternoon slump, instead of grabbing a sugary snack, Shakira has soup.

“At the four o’clock hour, when people are craving caffeine and a cookie, soup is a really great option because it fills you up and feels like a meal so it can keep you going until dinner, but it’s not hugely caloric,” Kaiser said.

That doesn’t mean Shakira doesn’t indulge. She just does it in a more healthful and creative way.

“We would do a cacao topped rice cake or half of a protein bar, or I got her some chocolate tea which kind of feels like a treat with some dehydrated fruit,” Kaiser revealed. “So it’s about allowing yourself to have a lot of different things in small quantities and keep it as fresh as possible.”
