‘Shameless’ ending after 11 seasons

Adapted from the British series of the same name, Showtime dramedy Shameless debuted in 2011. 10 years later, after 11 seasons, the show would end, similar to the original series.

Following Fiona’s departure, she seemingly left Debbie in charge by leaving her in possession of the $50,000 she gifted her family. However, Debbie eventually ended up registering as a sex offender due to her fling with the underaged Julia.

After falling off the wagon at Ian’s wedding, Lip straightened up and acquired a house for his small family. But, a couple offered his landlord a nice amount of money to purchase the home, misplacing them.

Desperate, Lip stole motorcycles from his former job, attempting to flip them, and tried to sell his childhood home, despite Debbie’s objections.

Including gentrification and the COVID-19 pandemic, Frank’s dementia diagnosis threw a wrench in everyone’s plans, although Liam is mainly the only one who steps up to care for their ailing father.

Emmy Rossum left ‘Shameless’ following season 9

From its debut, Emmy Rossum has portrayed the fearless yet reckless matriarch to the Gallagher family, Fiona. At 16-years-old, she had to drop out of school to care for her five younger siblings because their dysfunctional and drug-addicted parents couldn’t.

In Oct. 2016, the lead actor made her directorial debut in season 7 episode 4, shortly before her highly-publicized legal battle for equal pay. Rossum felt she should earn more money because she spent more hours on set than higher-paid William H. Macy, who portrays her father, Frank.

The Shameless star won the case, and filming resumed. She returned for one more season and then announced her departure from the series following its ninth season.

In Jan. 2020, shortly after season 10 finished, showrunner John Wells promised he would “certainly ask” Rossum to reprise her role in the final season. However, he acknowledged most of her time went to her new Peacock docuseries, Angelyne, which she stars in and serves as producer. As of the penultimate episode in season 11, Rossum hasn’t returned.

‘Shameless’ cast to reunite one last time; will Rossum make an appearance?

Immediately following the finale, the Gallaghers and Kev and V actors, William H. Macy, Cameron Monaghan, Emma Kenney, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkowsky, Steve Howey, and Shanola Hampton, will join Wells virtually for a final reunion to reflect on their 10-year journey on Shameless together.

Kate Miner (Tami) and Noel Fisher (Mickey Milkovich) are also named as attendees. The two-part event includes a panel with the actors and showrunner followed by a virtual 360-degree house tour of the staple Gallagher home.

It also includes never-before-seen content from the dramedy. However, Rossum is not named as an attendee. Therefore, the eldest Gallagher will likely not reunite with her cast one final time at the virtual reunion.

Shameless season 11 finale airs Sunday, Apr. 11, at 9/8 Central on Showtime. Viewers can attend the event immediately following at Gallagherhouse.com.
