Over the past 10 years, the Shameless star who portrays Debbie Gallagher — Emma Kenney — grew up on set. The child actor was only 9-years-old when she became the on-air daughter of William H. Macy (Frank Gallagher). During her rise to fame, many things happened that she never expected, including one pop star following her on Twitter. The tiny gesture brought her to tears.

Emma Kenney once had a crush on her ‘Shameless’ co-star

When Kenney joined the Shameless, she told Vulture that she had a massive crush on her on-screen brother, Jeremy Allen White. She and Ethan Cutkosky were besties on set, but White was a little older and desirable to the young tween.

“When I was 9 when the show first started, I had the biggest crush on Jeremy, who plays Lip,” she told the outlet. “I haven’t even told him that. I hope he doesn’t read this. I obviously don’t have a crush on Jeremy anymore. He’s like my brother, but even today, I’ll talk to him and I cannot not blush. It’s so annoying.”

As she grew up, her feelings for her co-star subsided, but the blushing didn’t stop as quickly.

“He’s a really nice guy, so he doesn’t say anything,” she continued. “But it’s so obvious that my face is bright red, randomly. We’ll be talking about a book — a book, no, Jeremy, doesn’t read. We’ll be talking about music or whatever, and I’m just blushing. It’s so embarrassing. I always make up an excuse: “Oh man, it’s so hot out today.”

‘Shameless’ actors Emmy Rossum and Shanola Hampton were second moms to Kenney

After Kenney’s co-star crush ended, she explained to Cosmopolitan that she went through a phase where she tweeted inappropriate things. Thankfully Emmy Rossum (who played older sister Fiona) and Shanola Hampton (Veronica) talked some sense into her.

“I went through a phase when I was 13 or 14,” she told the outlet. “I would tweet emo things about my feelings and boys who didn’t like me and mean girls in school. My mother would delete my tweets, and I would tweet petty [things] like, ‘When your mom deletes your tweet.’ Something crazy.”

She explained how fortunate she was to have such a great on-set family in Rossum and Hampton.

Kenney cried when Harry Styles followed her on Twitter

While talking to the outlet, Kenney confirmed her love of Harry Styles and admitted that she cried when he followed her out of the blue.

“Oh my God, yeah,” the star said when asked if she loves Styles. “He actually follows me on Twitter. He watches Shameless. I was crying when he followed me. And I didn’t even tweet him asking him to follow me, so it was pretty great.”

Although Kenney is a famous actor, she grew having the same feelings as other teens.
