Shark Week is still happening for 2020, and it’s happening with a few famous faces, including Will Smith’s. The Discovery Channel is sticking to its longstanding tradition to reel viewers in with shark content.

Part entertainment, part education, Shark Week (not to be confused with NatGeo’s SharkFest) is an event that’s become a pop culture fixture. This year, the party will welcome Smith, Snoop Dogg, and Shaquille O’Neal into its waters.

Here’s a look at how each star is participating in the network’s biggest event of the summer.

Will Smith is going into open water

From the description, this special Shark Week hour may sound like one of those ominous films about great white sharks and humans. We don’t think it is, but according to a press release from Discovery Channel, Will Smith will do more than get his feet wet.

“Will Smith is diving headfirst into action, excitement, and shark infested waters, as he confronts his fear of the open seas and the open jaws of nature’s fiercest predators.”

Last year, Smith shared a video of himself diving with tiger sharks in the Bahamas. It was part of his bucket list of experiences, and he said that Jaws made him scared of the creatures and scared to be in the bathtub. We believe his perspective changed.

Will Smith: Off The Deep End airs Aug. 11 at 9 p.m. EST.

Snoop Dogg delves into sharks in America

One of hip-hop’s most beloved rappers was recruited for Shark Week 2020! Snoop Dogg is going on an excursion to explore the presence of great white sharks in the country.

“Snoop Dogg takes a look at why Great White Sharks are taking up residence along America’s shores.  Will this be the “sharkiest” summer in US history? In this special, Snoop will breakdown the craziest shark encounters caught on tape, marvel at the wild and unpredictable reactions, and meet with the leading experts who are trying to unlock the secrets behind this great white shark invasion.”

Jaws in America premieres on Aug. 12 at 9 p.m. EST.

Shaquille O’Neal is back for shark seconds

In 2018, Shaquille O’Neal stepped into a cage to come face-to-face with sharks. But things went a little left when a small shark breached the cage — the first occurrence in Shark Week’s history. It didn’t faze him, because the NBA icon is part of the 2020 lineup.
