Fans fire back for using Wendy Williams’ platform

Williams is an institution on daytime television with The Wendy Williams Show. The “Hot Topics” segment where Williams talked directly to the camera and her co-hosts — her studio audience — and gave her take on the latest news in entertainment. Over the course of 14 seasons, Williams perfected her craft and created a platform like no other.

When Shepherd announced she was getting her own talk show while guest-hosting on Williams’ show, some fans fired back against this motion. Viewers believed that Shepherd should not have used The Wendy Williams Show to promote her new show that would eventually replace the aforementioned.

“Why announce this on WENDYS page. I will not be watching the Sherri show but good for you,” a fan replied.

“So y’all delete our post cos we say [don’t] post your new job on Wendy’s platform huh? Salty much,” a follower added.

“Thanks but NO THANKS… will NOT be watching this lady… I have not watched a single @wendyshow since the QUEEN @therealwendywilliamsonline did her last show last July,” an Instagram user said.

“This is so unbelievably TACKY. Using WENDY’S platform to announce a show that’s taking her timeslot? Absolutely revolting DebMar Mercury. Unfollowing immediately,” another fan commented.

“Why are y’all still posting on the account?! Give it to WENDY or let this account die,” another follower mentioned.

“Not interested!!! Sorry, no replacing Wendy!! Get Well Wendy!! It’s funny how they got someone that resembles Wendy’s looks trying to force this on us sorry I’m a loyal fan to the Queen Wendy won’t be watching!!” another Instagram user said.

Not all fans were upset and more positive comments were featured on Shepherd’s Instagram account where her followers celebrated her new venture.

Sherri Shepherd honors Wendy Williams

Ahead of Shepherd landing her own talk show, there had been many reports about what was happening to The Wendy Williams Show. Although technically Shepherd is taking over Williams’ show in the Fall of 2022, the show will be reportedly transformed into something that fits with Shepherd’s personality. On the day she announced the big news, Shepherd addressed the “crazy stories online” and honored Williams.

“I do wanna say there have been all of these crazy stories online about my replacing Wendy and I am here to tell you that, that is not true,” Shepherd said. “No one can replace the queen, nobody. And trust me, I am not trying to at all. It is Wendy’s place to share her story with you but I do wanna give the queen her props. Wendy had a legendary career in radio and this show was specifically crafted for her. No one can do this format but Wendy.”

Shepherd made it clear that she was not a replacement for Williams. The Friends alum said Williams could not be replicated as she was unique and original.
