‘Snowfall’ Season 6 Approved at FX, but It’ll Be the Last

It’s almost the end for Franklin Saint, the drug dealer at the center of the FX series Snowfall. For the past five years, the TV show has tracked his rise from a low-level marijuana dealer to a dominant player in the cocaine industry. It stars Damson Idris and is the brainchild of Boyz n the Hood creator John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Dave Andron. FX has renewed it for another season, but Snowfall Season 6 will also be the last.

‘Snowfall’ Season 6 will conclude Franklin Saint’s story

It was announced on Tuesday, April 5 that Snowfall had been approved for a sixth and final season at FX.

“Today, as the fifth season of ‘Snowfall’ reaches new heights of acclaim and viewership, there is no question that this series has become an FX classic drama,” Nick Grad, the head of original programming at FX, said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to order a sixth season that will enable Dave Andron, Walter Mosley, and the rest of the producers to bring ‘Snowfall ‘to a climatic finale showcasing the brilliance of everyone involved, from the stellar cast led by Damson Idris, to the writers, directors, artists and crew,” he continued.

“To tell a story worth telling, with creative partners you respect and admire, at a network that supports you throughout and allows you to end on your terms. That’s the dream,” Andron added. “I am so grateful to everyone at FX from John Landgraf on down and to the entire ‘Snowfall’ family for helping us get there. If only John Singleton could be with us for the end.”

Damson Idris also reacted to the news about ‘Snowfall’ Season 6

Idris, who got his big break with Snowfall, also addressed the cancelation. While it’s ‘heartbreaking’ for him to realize that the show is coming to an end, he’s honored to have been part of it.

“I couldn’t imagine telling this story anywhere but at FX,” he said. “I’m incredibly proud of the history we have all made. Especially the impact ‘Snowfall’ has had on the culture. Very rarely does a TV show get to the sixth season mark and saying goodbye to ‘Franklin Saint’ will be heartbreaking. But the family and relationships I’ve made on this journey will last a lifetime. I know John Singleton is looking down smiling proud.“

Snowfall is, at the time of this writing, in the middle of its fifth season, which airs at 10 p.m. ET on Wednesdays.

What’s happening in the latest season of the show?

Snowfall Season 5 begins a little over a year after Franklin sent his parents off to Cuba. He’s wealthier than ever and has a new girlfriend, Veronique Turner, with whom he’s expecting a child. Hoping to provide them with a better and safer life, Franklin tries to transition to a legitimate life as a businessman, but there are challenges. Specifically, there’s been infighting and betrayal within his camp.

They seem to be on better terms in the trailer for Snowfall Season 5 Episode 8, when they attend Jerome and Louie’s wedding. But the statement above mentions that they are “promptly sent down the rabbit hole.” Check out the next episode on Wednesday, April 6.
