Netflix kicked off October with some exciting news about The Umbrella Academy Season 3 — including a new teaser and confirmation of a 2022 release date. The streamer also celebrated the Sparrow Academy’s birthday by welcoming the group to Twitter. It seems The Umbrella Academy fans can look forward to some back and forth between the show’s two Twitter accounts. That should ramp up the excitement ahead of the new episodes.

The Umbrella Academy introduces the Sparrow Academy during its season 2 finale. When the Hargreeves siblings return home from their adventure to prevent the apocalypse, they realize their timeline has been altered. Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) remains alive in this new reality — and he’s put together a very different team.

That team is featured in The Umbrella Academy comics, and the on-screen iteration of it will see a still-living Ben (Justin H. Min) at the forefront. The show hasn’t introduced the other characters yet, but it seems they’ll but heads with the Umbrella Academy team in season 3.

Netflix welcomes the Sparrow Academy to Twitter ahead of season 3

As it turns out, the Sparrow Academy was formed on Oct. 1, 1989. To honor their birthday, Netflix created a Twitter account just for The Umbrella Academy newcomers — and they’ll probably have some fun with it before season 3.

The first post from the account sees Justin H. Min, who plays Umbrella Academy and Sparrow Academy Ben, commemorating the group’s founding with a video. In it, he takes on the personality fans can expect from his new version of Ben in season 3:

“On Oct. 1, 1989, the Sparrow Academy was born. You’re welcome. And while we appreciate grand gestures, we don’t need gifts, mere citizens. We are the gift. So, happy birthday to us.”

That arrogance isn’t something viewers have seen from Min’s character before, but it’s bound to define the members of the Sparrow Academy. If so, they’re likely to rub the Umbrella Academy the wrong way. And even though The Umbrella Academy Season 3 doesn’t drop until next year, the two groups are already sparring online.

‘The Umbrella Academy’ gave a less warm welcome to the new Twitter

Min may be excited about the Sparrow Academy’s new Twitter, but the Umbrella Academy’s account offered a less warm welcome.

“Well, SOMEONE rained on our parade this morning,” the account tweeted, tagging the Sparrow Academy page. It went on to tell fans about the new teaser — and prompt them to go find it. (It’s on the show’s Netflix page.)

Elliot Page also had a snarky response to Min’s video. The Umbrella Academy star quote retweeted it, writing simply, “I’m sorry, what?”

It looks like fans will get a good laugh from following both accounts before season 3 drops. They’ll also get an idea of what the characters’ relationships will look like in the new episodes. Hopefully, they won’t need to wait too long to see them play out on-screen.

The Umbrella Academy returns for season 3 sometime in 2022.
