The last Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 episodes on December 16 left viewers wanting more, as usual, but they aren’t on tonight, Dec. 22. Station 19 left viewers wondering who the new female fire chief is. However, the literal cliffhanger came in Grey’s Anatomy, where viewers fear that Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) could be dead after falling off the side of a cliff. When the shows return (you guessed it), it’s another Grey’s Anatomy Station 19 crossover event. When will the Shondaland shows return in 2022?

Why aren’t ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Station 19’ on tonight, Dec. 22, 2021?

According to ABC’s schedule, Station 19 Season 5 and Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 will lose their time slot tonight, Dec. 22. But it’s not all bad news. While Shondaland fans will miss out on new episodes this week, the network will air an evening of Christmas programming. It’s not the same, but it’s something cute. Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town takes the Station 19 slot, and then A Very Boy Band Holiday takes the Grey’s Anatomy slot. It’s disappointing for viewers who cannot stop thinking about Owen Hunt.

When do ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 18 and ‘Station 19’ Season 5 return?

Viewers must wait until Feb. 24, 2022, to see Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 return to Thursday night. In the Station 19 Season 5 promo, Ben Warren (Jason George) furiously jumps into a firetruck, rushing to save Owen. Fans find out that the drop off of the ridge is 100 feet. There’s also a tragic flash of Cormac Hayes watching the car fall off the side of the cliff.

“Civilian down, no pulse,” Robert Sullivan (Boris Kodjoe) radios to the team in the promo.

Although viewers watch the firefighters lift a dead body out of the vehicle, it is still possible that Owen is alive. Fans recall that the car’s driver had a stroke causing the crash. So, it is likely that the patient with no pulse is the driver, not Owen.

In the Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 promo, Teddy (Kim Raver) questions Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood) about what happened in the car after she climbed out with the heart.

What to expect when the Crossover event returns

Something traumatic happens when the Station 19 Grey’s Anatomy crossover event airs on Feb. 24, 2022. If Owen Hunt isn’t dead, he’s still in danger of dying. He will likely need extensive surgery. Before the car went over the cliff, Hunt told Hayes that he secretly gave Noah drugs to help him die. The surgeon also asked his friend to get the drugs out of Hunt’s car that he planned to give to other dying veterans. It looks like Teddy and Cormac might have a conversation about the situation.

Luckily, Station 19 Season 5 ended with plenty of happy moments. Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato) and Maya Bishop (Danielle Savre) shared that they plan to have a baby. Travis Montgomery (Jay Hayden) and Emmett Dixon’s (Lachlan Buchanan) relationship is thriving despite a sappy painting that Emmett gave to Travis.

Look for the Grey’s Anatomy Station 19 crossover event to return to ABC on Feb. 24, 2022. Station 19 airs at 8 p.m. EST, followed by Grey’s Anatomy at 9 p.m.
