It’s finale season, which means Shondaland fans are gearing up for some major heartbreak. On Thursday, May 14, Station 19 Season 3 will come to its fiery conclusion. And as always, viewers are questioning who makes it out alive. When the teaser for the final episode rolled out last week, everyone panicked over the possibility of Robert Sullivan’s (Boris Kodjoe) death. So will Sullivan die in the Station 19 Season 3 finale? Recently, Kodjoe opened up about what happens next.

Why fans are worried about Sullivan’s death in the ‘Station 19’ Season 3 finale

Sullivan has had quite the journey throughout Station 19 Season 3. The Battalion Chief was recently confronted by Ben Warren (Jason George) about his drug use. Sullivan also married Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz) right before her father, Pruitt Herrera (Miguel Sandoval), died a hero’s death

During the May 7 episode — titled “Bad Guy” — Andy started to spiral as she dug into her father’s history. Then when Sullivan tried to calm her down, she brought up his addiction in retaliation. The couple never made up in the episode. Meanwhile, the promo for the Station 19 Season 3 finale hinted some lingering tension. But the outcome of Sullivan’s surgery has the potential to change everything.

In the finale — titled “Louder Than a Bomb” — Sullivan will undergo surgery for chronic leg pain. At the start of the teaser, Sullivan seems worried — but fine — about his procedure as he speaks with Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone). However, when fans see Andy, she is an absolute wreck when she bumps into Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo).

Andy’s eyes are filled with tears and she tells the general surgeon her husband is in surgery. Then the clip jumps to Meredith telling Andy, “I’m so sorry.” And Andy collapses into Meredith’s arms. But does this mean something happens to Sullivan in the Station 19 finale? Not necessarily.

Ahead of the Station 19 Season 3 finale, E! News released a longer clip of Meredith and Andy’s conversation. In the preview, Andy does mention Sullivan’s surgery. However, it seems her worry isn’t directed at her husband’s health. Rather, Andy’s mind can’t stop thinking that something “really awful” happened to her mom. So while we’re worried about Andy, let’s just hope Sullivan remains in the clear throughout the final episode of Station 19 Season 3.

On May 14, Entertainment Tonight released an interview with Kodjoe. The actor teased details about the Station 19 Season 3 finale, including where Andy and Sullivan are in their marriage. That said, his remarks don’t exactly reassure fans about the safety of the characters.

“The finale’s going to be fire. I know that sounds crazy but there’s a lot of suspense,” Kodjoe said. “Andy just lost her dad in a fire, so she’s a wreck. [Andy and Sullivan] just got married, so they’re a newlywed couple who’s sort of learning to get to really know each other.”

He continued: “There’s a lot going on. It’s very explosive. … You need to get your popcorn and you need to get your tissues as always because you’re going to shed a tear and you’re going to be shocked by what you’re about to see.”

Clearly, there’s plenty to be worried about when the Station 19 finale airs on May 14. But just because Kodjoe hinted the ending will be emotional, doesn’t necessarily mean Sullivan — or another major character — will die. However, as any Shondaland fan knows by now, we’ll still be preparing for the worst. So stay tuned.
