The Capcom Countdown led to a highly-anticipated ‘Street Fighter 6’ reveal

On Feb. 14, Capcom launched a mysterious countdown clock, teasing an announcement that would come one week later. Although the announcement could have been anything from Resident Evil 4 Remake to Monster Hunter 6, many fans assumed it would be an official Street Fighter 6 reveal. After all, 2022 marks the 35th anniversary of the Street Fighter franchise, so there’s no better time to bring on the next chapter.

The fans were exactly right. Capcom’s countdown ended with a cinematic look at two popular fighters, Luke and Ryu, as they prepared for a showdown (seen below). And just as Luke threw the first punch, the scene changed to minimalist Street Fighter 6 logo.

For now, all fans know is that Street Fighter 6 is coming. Capcom did not include any release dates or even an estimated release window. However, the Street Fighter 6 website did tease that more news will arrive in summer 2022, so fans should keep their eyes peeled from June to August.

Will ‘Street Fighter 6’ be on Xbox or other platforms?

The reveal has led many fans to wonder how the next generation of Street Fighter will look. That includes which gaming consoles will house the newest installment. Street Fighter 5 remains a PlayStation 4 exclusive, thanks to a deal between Sony and Capcom. It’s possible Street Fighter 6 will follow the same pattern, releasing solely on PlayStation 5.

On the other hand, rumors have circulated that Street Fighter 6 will finally go multiplatform, including Xbox Series X|S. An alleged leak from a data breach at Capcom in 2020 suggested possible plans for release on current and last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. However, Capcom has yet to confirm anything.

‘Capcom Fighting Collection’ is also on its way
