Nicholas Braun has gained well-earned attention in his Emmy-nominated turn as cousin Greg on HBO’s Succession. Recently, he explained that he wants a different, more personal kind of attention, though. He shared that he desires a long-term relationship, though he wonders if he’s currently capable of it.

Nicholas Braun is adjusting to the celebrity that comes with ‘Succession’

Braun has balanced a successful acting career since he was a child. His father began taking acting lessons and would practice with a young Braun. The skills stuck, and the father-son pair appeared in a short film together. From there, Braun’s career began to take shape.

He started to get TV and film work and set off on a burgeoning Disney career. He had roles in films like Sky HighMinutemen, and Princess Protection Program. Though he collected many credits in his youth, Succession is his most significant role yet, gaining him widespread attention. He’s aware of the fan base and memes generated by his performance, but he tries to work around them.

“You don’t want to think, is this a meme-able moment?” he told The New York Times.

He doesn’t feel he can be in a long-term relationship

For all his on-screen success, Braun has faced difficulty in his romantic pursuits. At this time, he’s writing a “romantic traumedy” that taps inspiration from his own life.

“I haven’t really been in a long-term relationship, ever,” he explained. “I do yearn for it and yet I’m incapable of it. I go toward it and then I hit a wall where I’m like, I can’t go farther into this. I’ve got to exit.”

In an interview with The Cut, Braun gave further context to his dating life, explaining that he tends to overthink things.

“I don’t know how to cope with it, so I just kind of walk away from it,” he said. “After a week of being obsessed and checking, Has anything come into the phone? Is there any sign? I can’t do it anymore.”

Still, Braun is optimistic about the future. Though he can’t currently see himself in a romantic relationship, he trusts that it will happen.

“I do believe it’ll happen at the right time with the right person. Until then, it’s fun to meet people and see what works.”

Nicholas Braun released a song about a pandemic romance

One of his dating-inspired bits of writing takes the form of a jokey, early-pandemic era song. While staying in a friend’s guesthouse in 2020, Braun began feeling isolated. His friends were a couple, which soon made Braun wish for that kind of connection.

“This girl and I were talking and we were like, ‘Maybe we should go meet up and go for a walk — with bandanas on,’” he told Rolling Stone. “So I went on this quarantine date; it sort of felt secret because I didn’t want my friends to know. And I guess the combination of paranoia and romance is what the song is about.”

The song, “Antibodies (Do You Have The),” was a viral hit and later snagged Braun a record deal
