The creative minds behind ‘Supergirl’ will have time to craft a proper ending

Deadline reported that Supergirl’s sixth season would be its last. Although the news is unfortunate, the timing is ideal under the circumstances. The decision was made soon enough in the pre-production process for the writers to create a satisfying conclusion.

According to Deadline, filming will presumably get underway in early fall in Vancouver, British Columbia. Most of Supergirl’s cast and crew will begin production without Melissa Benoist, who was out on maternity leave after having her first child with her husband and former Supergirl co-star, Chris Wood. According to Deadline, Benoist will join her castmates on set at a later time.

The cast shared heartfelt words after the news broke

Social media has been buzzing with fan comments, including well-wishes and admiration for the stars who brought Supergirl to life on screen. Likewise, some of the stars have spoken out about the news that Kara Zor-El’s story is coming to a close on The CW. Here are some heartfelt sentiments shared by the three Supergirl OGs who have been integral members of the team since the beginning, and who will join forces in the final season.

Melissa Benoist called playing Supergirl ‘an honor’

In a statement posted to Twitter, Benoist highlighted the positive impact her character has had on young women. She also hinted that the producers have big plans for the final season of Supergirl.

To say it has been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement. Seeing the incredible impact, the show has had on young girls around the world has always left me humbled and speechless.

She’s had that impact on me, too. She’s taught me strength I didn’t know I had, to find hope in the darkest of places, and that we are stronger when we’re united. What she stands for pushes all of us to be better. She has changed my life for the better, and I’m forever grateful.

I’m so excited that we get to plan our conclusion to this amazing journey, and I cannot wait for you to see what we have in store. I promise we’re going to make it one helluva final season.

In response to the news that Supergirl is concluding, Chyler Leigh, who plays Alex Danvers, posted a behind-the-scenes photo to Instagram. In the caption, she revealed that it was taken on her first day working with Benoist and David Harewood. In the lengthy post, she called Supergirl “the job of a lifetime” and expressed gratitude for the show, her character, and the cast and crew.

“This has not only been the greatest, most challenging (physically and emotionally) project I’ve ever been a part of, I met family I never even knew I had. I met my soul sister and I met our space dad. And… I met Alex Danvers. She has taught me more about myself than I could’ve imagined,” Leigh wrote, in part.
