Survivor has a long history, which includes some dramatic moments. Jeff Probst was there for all of them, and he admitted to having regrets as the competition host.

Jeff Probst has hosted ‘Survivor’ since 2000

Probst has been the only person to host Survivor. So it’s hard to imagine the show without him.

There have been iconic moments, but also some incidents along the way. Production removed Dan Spilo from Survivor: Island of Idols after Kellee Kim complained about him making her feel uncomfortable with how he interacted with her physically. But production didn’t take this action immediately and Probst apologized to Kim for that on the show.

“We made a decision to meet with you guys privately,” Probst said. “We weren’t transparent about why we met. That’s something else that I have learned that would have helped a lot, if we could have said, here’s what we’re talking about.”

The host later said, “your voice should have been enough. The silver lining is it will next time. We learned a lot from you being willing to speak up.”

Probst is now reflecting on his 21 years of hosting. He admitted to having regrets.

The host talked about needing to change with time along with the show. He revealed to The New York Times that he isn’t a fan of some things he said.

“I’m not always perfect on the show,” Probst said. “I said things that I regret now, I’ve had points of view that I would change now. That was also me in the moment, being vulnerable and learning.”

For example, he called himself out for using men’s last names and referring to women with their first names. Probst said he did this because of sports. “I have a very healthy sense of myself,” he later said. “I’ve never been afraid of being vulnerable or being wrong.”

The game is back in Fiji after taking a long break due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Probst told Variety this new season would represent change.

“The original title two years ago was going to be ‘Dawn of a New Era,’” he explained. “With everything that was going on, that title wasn’t appropriate — it didn’t fit anymore. But the essence of birthing a new era did.”

This season won’t have an official theme. Probst will also directly address the audience at times. “I think they’re going to understand this is me saying, ‘We’re in this together,’” he explained.
