Jeff Probst announced ‘Survivor’ Season 41 is coming after hiatus

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, CBS put Survivor Season 41 on the back burner — but it’s officially coming back. Probst took to Instagram in March 2021 to announce production began on the new season after the forced hiatus.

“Hey Survivor fans, I have some exciting news to share,” Probst said on Instagram on March 22, 2021. “Survivor‘s going back into production. Fiji has invited us back to their beautiful country to shoot season 41. … I can’t remember a time I’ve been this pumped to shoot Survivor.” Probst will assuredly host the new season as well, which will surely please fans.

Probst added another video update from Fiji regarding the new season. “Greetings from Fiji, where it is cold and rainy and windy and we are shooting Survivor,” Probst said via Twitter. “In fact, we are just a few minutes away from shooting a challenge.” He then went on to remind fans the show began 21 years ago — and he can’t wait to continue it with the fans.

Contestants in the new season are rumored to split into these 3 teams

So, what will happen in Survivor Season 41? While CBS hasn’t made any official announcements, rumors suggest the new season won’t have a theme. Rumors also note the season will be shorter than usual, putting the contestants in Fiji for far fewer than the typical 39 days.

According to Inside Survivor, contestants will still split into their designated “tribes” even without a theme, though. As of now, the tribes don’t have names — they just have colors — though this, of course, could change by the time the season airs. The publication notes there’s a blue team, a yellow team, and a green team. Each team contains six contestants.

So, which contestants made it to each “tribe”? The blue team reportedly has a retired NFL player, an artist, and a law student, to name a few. The yellow team has a researcher Ph.D. student, a cyber security pro, and a neurosurgeon. And the green team has a cattle rancher, a flight attendant, and a grocery store worker.

While fans are eager to hear when Survivor Season 41 will air, CBS still hasn’t released an exact date. But Probst gave a clue in his Fiji video. He noted the show will return for the new season in September 2021. And, given the timing of his video posted to Twitter, it’s likely Probst took that video toward the end of the season.

Rumors suggest season 42 is well underway as well, but production allegedly ran into major delays due to a flight ban in Fiji. Inside Survivor notes Fiji suspended all international flights into the country on April 22. The cast and crew were set to fly out to Fiji at the end of April 2021. This might affect when season 42 will release, but perhaps production can make up the lost time.
