Amanda (Ko) works in product development at a large cosmetics company, but she’s recently been frustrated in her career because her employer is reluctant to try out her new ideas. One day, she gets a call from her beloved aunt Carol (Lauren Tom), who tells her she’s found love and is starting a new chapter in her life. That means selling her pecan farm, which has been a family gathering place since Amanda was a child.

The mischievous Carol asks Amanda for help selling the property, but she has an ulterior motive. She’s enlisted her niece’s ex-boyfriend J.P. (Brown) to act as the broker. J.P was a pro baseball player until he was sidelined by an injury. He’s taken up a job in real estate while he figures out his next move.

Amanda and J.P. have to work together to sell the farm, but that doesn’t mean they’re getting along. But the more time they spend together, the more they reconnect and rediscover their old feelings for each other — just as Amanda’s aunt Carol intended.

In a recent interview with MediaVillage, Brown talked about the story behind Sweet Pecan Summer. The movie was inspired by his wife’s aunt.

“This story actually came from my wife,” the actor said. “I got credit for it and executive produced it, as it was purchased through my production company. But that being said, the story is loosely based on a story about my wife Amanda’s aunt Carol and a piece of property she was selling. Some things were changed, but real people and real-life events informed this really nice story. When we shot it, knowing everyone was employed because of [my wife] was really, really, cool.”

‘Sweet Pecan Summer’ is Wes Brown’s 14th Hallmark Channel movie

Brown is no stranger to Hallmark Channel. Sweet Pecan Summer is actually the 14th movie the actor has appeared in for the network. His first, Love Begins, aired in 2009. Since then, he’s starred in movies such as Wedding at Graceland, Under the Autumn Moon, and Love Under the Stars. When he landed his first Hallmark movie, he had “no idea” it would lead to such a long relationship with the network.

Love Begins was just a regular audition in a long line of all the others,” he said. “I never thought it would lead to continuous work for over a decade. I think what any actor wants most is a place to call home, but I never thought it would be Hallmark! I’m very lucky and I will ride that wave for as long as they let me.”

Sweet Pecan Summer airs Saturday, August 28 at 9 p.m. ET on Hallmark Channel.
