Because of all the drama it caused on social media last year, people are still talking about “hymengate.” This refers to the situation in which rapper T.I. Harris talked openly going with his daughter, Deyjah Harris, to OB-GYN appointments. The statements were met with fierce backlash. From the looks of it, the Harris family wants to move on from it, but it doesn’t look like that is happening, due to social media.

T.I. recently said that he believed people “jumped to conclusions”

T.I. found himself in a load of controversy back in 2019 after he stated that he goes with Deyjah, who is 18, to her OB-GYN appointments to make sure her “hymen is intact.” He spoke about it on the podcast, Ladies Like Us.

For months, T.I. received critiques who this behavior which was called misogynistic and sexist. It was also a storyline on the most recent season of their VH1 television series, T.I. and Tiny: The Friends and Family Hustle. During the episodes, Deyjah revealed that the ordeal embarrassed her and that it was traumatizing.

Just last week, T.I. slammed people that criticized him. He told The Breakfast Club that his comments were misconstrued and blown out of proportion. “All the other people who jumped to conclusions and got into some weird freaky s**t, man, f**k y’all, ’cause that ain’t never been Tip,” he said. “Tip ain’t never rocked like that. Those people who assumed, ‘Oh, he’s in the exam room with her.’ I never said that…Those people who assumed, ‘He made her do it against her will.’ I never said that.”

Fans believed that Deyjah Harris subtweeted her father

Monday, Deyjah sent out a tweet that many fans immediately assumed was about her father, considering the aftermath of his statements about her doctor appointments. She tweeted, “watch how you speak to your children. i don’t care how old they are, they still deserve the same respect that you expect in return.”

When a fan quote tweeted her and said that a lot of times, children don’t get a say in how they are treated because they are younger, Deyjah responded and said that things will change. “[B]ut the good thing about this generation is that we will all be much better parents and know what to do/say or what NOT to do/say to our children, no matter what age they are,” she wrote.

T.I. rebuffs this claim, sharing a text message thread with his children

Several websites, including The Shade Room, began reporting on Deyjah’s tweet. As the tweet continued to gain traction T.I. commented on The Shade Room’s Instagram post, accusing the outlet of making a big deal out of nothing. “Y’all reaching,” he said. Every adult felt this way as an adolescent at some point in life. Only difference here is…she’s TI’s daughter. Let he[r] LIVE Cuzz…. she finding her place in the world & doesn’t deserve to be under the microscope every step of the way. I can handle that pressure & I welcome it,so apply it to ME… leave her tf ALONE please. Sincerely, A loving Father.”

The rapper wasn’t done after that. On his own Instagram page, he shared a series of texts which included Deyjah. While we don’t know each person in the group thread, it seems to be one that includes his children, given the fact that both Deyjah and one of his sons, Domani, are both in there.

In the text thread, Deyjah said, “It’s always some BS. I didn’t answer their DM for a reason and they still gone post it?” T.I. added, “No pressure my love… I would just suggest you apply More context Deyjah… IG is a place where if you don’t give them their conclusion, they will definitely draw their own… Or should I say social media. I mean I didn’t mean to upset you. Just givin you some game.”

She also seemed to be frustrated with the fact that her social media is so heavily monitored and that people think a lot of her posts are about T.I. She continued in part, “..it’s my twitter should be able to tweet what i want and people should just mind their business. everything doesn’t have to be about him, this why i don’t like people.”
