On May 19, 2021, Hargitay took to Instagram and revealed that she had multiple leg injuries.
“#ThatFeelingWhen, you go to the doctor, get an MRI and find out that you have a broken knee, a hairline fracture in your ankle, and a torn ligament,” she captioned a photo showing her walking out of a hospital with a long black brace covering her right knee and upper thigh, and an ankle brace on her other leg. “It’s always a good idea to go to the doctor. While Hargitay didn’t say how she actually injured herself she made it clear that it didn’t occur while working on the set of her hit show writing: “Just so you know this did NOT happen at work!”

Hargitay is married to Younger star Peter Hermann, who she met on the set of Law & Order: SVU when he played defense attorney Trevor Langan.
After having a conversation about religion, Hermann asked Hargitay if she would like to go to church with him. They began dating for a few years and were married in 2004.
