Shortly before her death in May 2021, actor Tawny Kitaen revealed that she hoped to reconnect with Tom Hanks and explore a sequel to Bachelor Party. She said doing another film with Hanks was the “lighthearted comedy” needed to offset the heavy work he was currently doing. And she added that Hanks is truly one of the nicest people in Hollywood.

Tawny Kitaen hoped she could reunite with Tom Hanks for ‘Bachelor Party’

Kitaen observed that Hanks was so focused on world events, she would love to see him pivot back to his light comedy roots. “Because he’s so good at this,” she said the Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef podcast, which may have been her last interview ever.

“I would love to see him, whether it’s with me or somebody else, but do another like Bachelor Party II where our kid is getting married,” she continued. “Like he needs to do –like, I’m his agent – he needs to do like a lighthearted comedy. You know, I mean, everything is so heavy. And so Newsweek and Time oriented you know? I would love to see him do a nice comedy. He’s so good.”

A 28-year old Tom Hanks chatted with The Washington Post in 1984 about where he thought his career was headed.

“The sum total,” he said, “looks like comedy. But . . . y’know, I didn’t particularly think of myself as funny in Splash. The stuff that happened was funny, but the character itself was not. Bachelor Party was funny. This here The Man With One Red Shoe is not so much me being funny. I mean . . . I can’t say, ‘Okay, we gotta do something here to get some guffaws.’ The battle, for me, the battle is: The script is as it is, and the script is the blueprint, and what we have to do is make it interesting. That’s my job, to make it interesting as possible.”

She said Tom Hanks is one of the nicest people in Hollywood

Kitaen backed up her assertion about Hanks being focused on the serious side of the business in 2018 when she chatted with a reporter at NJ HorrorCon. “Tom Hanks is a sweetheart,” she said. “He’s everything you would think he is. A funny tidbit is when we were done, in between takes, he was sitting in his trailer reading Time Magazine.” She acknowledged his serious, intellectual side. “Even back then,” she said. “Even back then he was an intellectual.”

Kitaen added again that the rumors are true about Hanks as being one of the nicest people in the industry. “Yeah,” she said on Behind the Velvet Rope. “And it’s true. It’s really true. And I’m just a grateful girl. I got to marry him three different times, three different locations. They weren’t sure how they really wanted the wedding to go. So I got to spend three full days marrying Tom Hanks. So I’m special.”

‘Bachelor Party’ actually had a sequel – it went straight to video

Bachelor Party 2: The Last Temptation was released in 2008 without Hanks or Kitaen as nervous parents of a bride or groom about to get married. The film was also released without much fanfare as it sputtered out before it could reach theaters. The premise was different from the original but had some similar themes. “Ron wants to marry Melinda. He must first survive a bachelor party used by Melinda’s brother-in-law to kill the wedding.”
