In a new announcement from Bandai Namco and Netflix, Tekken: Bloodline has a release date set for 2022. The anime adaptation of the classic fighting game series already teased iconic fighters from Tekken, Jin Kazama and Heihachi. And in the Tekken: Bloodline trailer, fans saw the two warriors in some brutal training and fights.

The ‘Tekken: Bloodline’ trailer features Jin Kazama searching for Heihachi

Jin Kazama debuted in Tekken 3 in 1997 and quickly became a series mainstay up through  Tekken 7 in 2017. He even played the antagonist in Tekken 6 (the updated Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion may have inspired the anime title). However, in the Netflix Tekken: Bloodline anime, he is the protagonist.

According to the YouTube description on the Tekken: Bloodline trailer, Jin Kazama plans to “lead to the ultimate battle on a global stage – The King of Iron Fist Tournament.”

“Jin Kazama learned the family self-defense arts, Kazama-Style Traditional Martial Arts, from his mother at an early age. Even so, he was powerless when a monstrous evil suddenly appeared, destroying everything dear to him, changing his life forever,” the description read. “Angry at himself for being unable to stop it, Jin vowed revenge and sought absolute power to exact it.”

This avenging quest leads him to seek out his brutal warrior grandfather, Heihachi Mishima. And it looks like the lightning-punching fighter from arcades and PlayStation holds nothing back.

The ‘Tekken: Bloodline’ trailer teased several classic ‘Tekken’ characters

While Jin Kazama and Heihachi take most of the focus in the official trailer for Tekken: Bloodline, Netflix already teased other Tekken characters, too.

The “monstrous evil” mentioned in the description references Ogre from Tekken 3. If the woman in the Tekken: Bloodline trailer is Jin Kazama’s mother, then she might not make it out of the fight fans saw.

Other Tekken characters included Paul Phoenix, an American fighter who debuted in the first game but never won a tournament. Fans also caught a glimpse of the Tekken 7 fighter Leroy Smith.

The luchador in a leopard mask, King, also has an intense final shot in the Tekken: Bloodline teaser, clashing with jin Kazama. Sumo fighter Ganryu also appears as well from several games in the series.

Finally, fans familiar with Super Smash Bros. likely recognized Kazuya, the brutal fighter who tossed Nintendo characters like Ganondorf and Captain Falcon off a cliff in his reveal trailer.

Fans suspect the plot to follow ‘Tekken 3,’ the debut game of Jin Kazama

While the description in the Tekken: Bloodline teaser trailer does not follow any single game, fans notice similarities to Tekken 3.

The three major characters in the trailer –  Jin Kazama, Heihachi, and Ogre – appear in Tekken 3. And with Heihachi playing the villain in most Tekken games, the anime looks to shake things up by making him more of an antihero.

However, it could lead to more villainous actions in the future. Despite the familial connection, Jin Kazama and Heihachi often fight as bitter rivals.
