‘The A-Team’: Mr. T Talks Possible Reboot

Over the past few years, there’s been a constant stream of reboots and revivals coming out of Hollywood. From TV shows like Roseanne and Frasier to iCarly and The Powerpuff Girls, all kinds of shows have made their way back to the small screen. But one that has yet to happen is the iconic series The A-Team.

From 1983 to 1986, the show followed several soldiers under the fictional Army Special Forces unit who go on the run after being falsely accused of a crime. It ran for five seasons, earning several award nominations and even inspiring a movie in 2010. With that kind of success, one would think it could definitely earn a reboot. But based on comments from Mr. T, it’s hard to tell if it’ll ever happen.

Mr. T’s comments on a potential reboot of ‘The A-Team’

Mr. T, who played B.A. Baracus in the show, weighed in on a possible reboot in an interview with the entertainment website Pop Culture. He’s unsure if one will happen, but if it does, he thinks it’ll only work if the original cast is involved.

“They might (reboot it) but it wouldn’t be the same,” he explained. “Ain’t nothing like the real thing. They tried it with the movie, that didn’t work. And so, we had a certain chemistry.”

“We came into people’s homes every Tuesday night,” Mr. T continued. “People got the chance to know us, know what we was about it and all of that. So, it was we had time and it was just I had a good relationship with Dwight Schultz, who played Murdoch and Dirk Benedict, Faceman, and Hannibal, George Peppard. It was just, we had that chemistry.”

Deadline reported in 2015 that a revival was in the works. It described the reboot as having a “contemporary take” on the original series with a new lineup of “male and female members.” But it doesn’t look like there has been any information about it since then.

Mr. T could have appeared in the movie based on ‘The A-Team’ but…

Elsewhere in the interview, Mr. T commented on the movie The A-Team, which featured Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley, and Quinton Jackson. He mentioned had the opportunity to make a cameo in the film, which he admits he never watched, but ultimately decided to pass on the offer.

“I’m known for two things, Clubber Lang in Rocky III and being Baracus in The A-Team. I don’t do no cameo on something that I created,” he explained. “Don’t insult me. And plus, like I said, if the other team was there, I would have been a part of it.”

He also said he was turned off by the film because it featured the soldiers “killing people and all this stuff. We didn’t do that on the TV show, so I wouldn’t want to be a part of that.”

There was supposed to be a sequel for The A-Team, but it was ultimately scrapped. Cooper made the revelation in a 2011 interview with the website Empire, saying: “There just wasn’t enough revenue to supply a second installment of that franchise.”

It’s all probably disappointing news to some people, but whether the show comes back or not, it’ll forever have a place in fans’ hearts.
