For months, rumors have been circulating that Clare Crawley fell in love just two weeks into filming The Bachelorette and quit the show in order to leave with contestant Dale Moss. Now, as that is playing out on tv, more things have been coming out that suggest that leaving the show might not have been 100% Crawley’s idea.

Clare Crawley says she didn’t quit

During filming, a source told multiple publications that Crawley had fallen in love with Moss and locked herself in a closet so that she wouldn’t have to film anymore. Once Crawley was free to do interviews again, she spoke to Entertainment Tonight to shut those rumors down.

“I did not quit the show,” she said. “I stayed the whole time, I went, I did what I was going to do there. I showed up, I didn’t quit anything.”

And she claims that she never hid in a closet.

“I can promise you I did not lock myself in a closet,” Crawley continued. “That was one [rumor] I heard that I was throwing a fit and I locked myself in a closet.”

Reality Steve thinks production forced Clare to quit

As Crawley’s season had to be filmed during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, anyone who was going to be on set had to quarantine before filming. So, if Crawley deciding to quit the show was really a complete surprise to production, there would have been a big lag in filming as they tried to find someone else and then that person quarantined before being allowed to film. But that wasn’t the case.

“In reality, they knew what was happening the whole time,” Bachelor expert Reality Steve wrote on his blog about production. “It wasn’t even Clare’s decision to end the show with Dale. It was production’s. They were the ones that went to HER bringing up the scenario of basically, ‘what do you think of ending this now with Dale.’ They both agreed and, whaddya’ know, they already have Tayshia there on standby.

“Based on the timing of when we heard Tayshia was headed to La Quinta to begin quarantine then film (it was nine days after Clare’s first night), I can report to you that this was in productions plan before Clare’s season started.”

Clare Crawley’s ex Benoit Beausejour-Savard doesn’t think she quit

Before becoming the Bachelorette, Crawley participated in The Bachelor Winter Games which brought Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants from around the world together. After the show, Crawley and contestant Benoit Beausejour-Savard got engaged.

While on Ben Higgins and Ashley Iaconetti’s Almost Famous podcast, Beausejour-Savard revealed that he didn’t think that leaving was Crawley’s “ultimate decision.”

“I would say this is not the Clare that I know,” he said of how Crawley has been portrayed on the show. “Put yourself into her shoes, you’re doing quarantine in a resort. This show’s a bit [of a] mindf*ck, you’re been there, it’s a lot to manage and I feel like at some point maybe she was overwhelmed by all of this. She felt super strong feelings with Dale [Moss] and then this whole thing played out… There’s a little difference in the Clare that is shown on TV than the Clare that I know in real life.”

Host Chris Harrison has denied the rumor that production forced Crawley out but the timeline of it all is still interesting.
