Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki played Penny and Leonard on The Big Bang Theory for its entire 12 season run. The actors dated briefly during the first few seasons of the show. But as their character’s romantic storyline grew, the two ended up calling it quits in real life.

Luckily, Cuoco and Galecki maintained their friendship and completed the entire series without a hitch. But in hindsight, Cuoco thinks her romantic scenes with Galecki were written in just to mess with them post-breakup.

‘Big Bang Theory’ stars Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki dated for two years

Cuoco and Galecki’s chemistry was visible from the very first episode of The Big Bang Theory. And that’s probably because of their mutual real-life attraction. In a recent interview with Dax Shepard for his podcast, Armchair Expert, Cuoco revealed that she had been interested in Galecki from the start.

“We dated really early on for almost two years,” she shared. “When we did the pilot, I was crushing so hard on Galecki, but he had a girlfriend.”

The ‘Big Bang Theory’ stars broke up after a few years

Cuoco and Galecki eventually started dating. And they stayed together through the first few seasons of The Big Bang Theory. And while their romantic relationship did not last, their friendship managed to endure.

“We got together and just fell mad for each other for two years, but then we broke up,” Cuoco told Shepard on his podcast. “Luckily, Johnny and I came out of it so brilliantly and we’re closer today than we ever were.”

Cuoco and Galecki have since moved on romantically. Cuoco recently celebrated her second wedding anniversary with Karl Cook. And Galecki recently welcomed a son with his girlfriend, Alaina Meyer.

But the two actors remain good friends. And along with their other co-stars, they often share loving pictures and messages of each other on social media.

Kaley Cuoco thinks her romantic scenes with Galecki were written in to mess with them

When talking to Shepard for Armchair Expert, Cuoco reflected on her romantic scenes with Galecki on The Big Bang Theory. She noted that just after their real-life split, showrunner Chuck Lorre wrote in several scenes in which Penny and Leonard hooked up.

“When we broke up obviously it was a little sensitive for a minute, but I remember those weeks that Chuck had written these episodes where all of a sudden our characters were like sleeping together every other second,” Cuoco said.

She revealed that she’s talked to Galecki about the scenes. And the two actors think that Lorre may have added those scenes in just to mess with them after their break up.

“Johnny and I talk about it and I think [Chuck] did that on purpose — just to f**k with us,” she added. “If I was with him, I would ask him because that came out of nowhere. All of a sudden these characters were all up on each other.”
