‘The Blacklist’: Why Liz Keen’s Death Disappointed so Many Fans
Season 8 of The Blacklist ended with Liz Keen’s death at the hands of one of Townsend’s henchman. The season finale was a shock for many fans. Megan Boone has been playing Liz on the series for nearly a decade, and season 8 marked the end of her time on the show. Many passionate fans felt that Liz’s death didn’t do the character justice. Even fans who have come to dislike Liz feel that she should have had a better ending.
How does Liz die in ‘The Blacklist’?
Liz has had her share of life and death situations throughout The Blacklist. In season 3, Liz even faked her death to protect her daughter Agnes from Reddington. However, Liz’s death in season 8 seems a lot more final, though some fans still believe she is alive.
Liz meets up with Reddington in the season 8 finale. While the two talk, Liz is shot in the back by one of Townsend’s henchmen. She falls to her knees and dies in Reddington’s arms while her life flashes before her eyes. Dembe pulls Reddington away and Ressler is the first person on the task force to find her dead.
Liz’s death disappointed many fans
Liz’s death on The Blacklist was a disappointment to many fans. After spending so much time with the character, having her get shot in the back in a sudden ambush felt a little cheap. “I did not think they would actually kill Liz,” wrote a fan on Reddit.
“Shot through the heart from behind by Townsend’s goon. That’s it? Poor Ressler, who has loved her for years, is the first to find her dead?? Plus the heavy-handed Redrina montage… NOPE. This is my worst nightmare come to life.”
Fans were also upset about where things ended between Liz and Reddington. “I just can’t get over them doing that to Liz,” another fan wrote. “She wasn’t my favorite character, but I kept hoping that her and Red would eventually reconcile. I really liked when they worked together earlier in the series.”
Liz never got to learn the truth about Reddington’s identity, which many fans were hoping the season finale would openly confirm. Hopefully, season 9 will have more answers.
Is Liz Keen really dead in ‘The Blacklist’ Season 9?
The Blacklist has a habit of bringing characters back from the dead, which has led fans to wonder if Liz is really dead. “I don’t believe Liz is dead. I think there’s a chance that this whole thing was to fake Liz’s death so she could be safe while Red wraps things up.” a fan wrote on Reddit.
“I don’t know if they’ll have Megan Boone guest star or just a mention that she’s alive at the end of Season 9, but I just don’t trust anything in this show.” Megan Boone, who played Liz, has publicly announced the end of her time on The Blacklist. However, that’s not to say that Liz couldn’t still be alive.
