‘The Blacklist’ Season 9 Episode 18 ended on a cliffhanger

In The Blacklist Season 9, Red uncovered evidence that led him to believe that his former associate Mr. Kaplan is alive. In episode 18, he paid Kaplan’s sister Maureen a visit. Maureen told Red that Kaplan was training a woman named Clara Moore to be a cleaner shortly before she died. She also suspected that Clara and Kaplan were romantically involved.

Red tracks down Clara and, with some help from Teddy Brimley, learns that Clara really didn’t have any inkling that Kaplan could be alive. That is, until a few days ago when she received a note instructing her to meet “Kaplan” in an abandoned building. Red intercepts the note and heads to the meeting location. He appears to see Kaplan through the window, and Weecha goes in to bring her out. However, when she enters the building, Red loses contact with her and the building explodes.

Weecha Xui survived the blast — but she appears to be seriously injured

At first, some fans saw the blast as a little suspicious. “The whole setup was to get Weecha out. She was working for Mr. Kaplan the whole time, as was her sister,” one Reddit user wrote. Weecha’s fate was left unknown after the blast, but thanks to promo photos for next week’s episode fans know that she survived.

We also know that she didn’t disappear in the aftermath. One photo shows Weecha in the hospital, appearing to be unconscious. Red places his hand on her forehead, clearly concerned. While it seems that Weecha initially survived the blast, it doesn’t rule out the possibility that she could die from her injuries.

This also doesn’t necessarily mean the Xui sisters couldn’t be working against Red. Many fans have also suggested that the figure seen inside the building was not actually Kaplan, but Maureen in disguise. The Blacklist Season 9 is approaching it’s end, and there are still so many unanswered questions.
