The Blacklist Season 9 has been interesting so far. The new season has a very different feel without Megan Boone‘s character Liz Keen. The series has a frustrating habit of dangling mysteries in front of fans without ever giving them a real answer. Fans were especially disappointed that the season 8 finale never confirmed Raymond “Red” Reddington’s identity. However, episode 5, “Benjamin T. Okara,” could give fans clarity about at least one burning question.

Red gave Dembe a mysterious gift in season 4

In The Blacklist Season 4, Red visits an injured Dembe and gives him a present. He instructs Dembe to open the package on the day he decides to stop working for Red for good. Dembe was Red’s loyal bodyguard for the first eight seasons of The Blacklist.

Dembe tells Red that he isn’t leaving him. However, Red makes it clear that Dembe can leave him if he wishes. “Whether it’s today or tomorrow or 10 years from now, that’s when you open the box,” Red tells him. After that, the box was not brought up again.

Fans have plenty of guesses about what the package could contain. “If I had to guess it would be a letter on what he meant to him and bank account details to support him for the rest of his life,” one fan proposed on Reddit.

“My wish is that is something really meaningful for both of them, like a poem that talks about Dembe’s salvation of Red,” another fan proposed. At long last, fans might get an answer in The Blacklist Season 9.

Promo photos for The Blacklist Season 9 hint that the box will return in episode 5. One photo shows Dembe with his hand on a box that looks a lot like the one Red gave him in season 4. Another photo shows Dembe in tears, which could hint that whatever is inside the box sparks an emotional reaction from Dembe.

‘The Blacklist’ Season 9 Has Fans Questioning NBC’s Lack of Promos

In addition to revealing the contents of the box, episode 5 could also explain what happened between Red and Dembe in the two years following Liz Keen’s death. Dembe joined the FBI, but The Blacklist Season 9 has yet to explain exactly why he left, or why things are so awkward between Red and Dembe. Hopefully, the new episode will clear things up.

Another mystery unfolds in ‘The Blacklist’ Season 9

Even if The Blacklist Season 9 Episode 5 reveals the contents of the box, fans still have quite a few unanswered questions. Obviously, fans want to know Red’s true identity, but another mystery has been unfolding in the new season. In episode 4, Cooper woke up in a parking garage with a chunk of time missing from his memory.

His wife Charlene later informed him that her ex-lover was found dead of a gunshot wound. Cooper realizes that his service weapon is missing a round. Now fans are wondering if Cooper could have committed the murder. Hopefully, episode 5 will dive deeper into this, and maybe fans will get an answer to multiple burning questions in one episode.
