‘The Blacklist’: Who Plays Dr. Sharon Fulton and Will She Return to Test Liz’s Dark Side?
The last few seasons of The Blacklist have presented more questions than answers. Among the many issues that have arisen, Elizabeth Keen’s (Megan Boone) alliance with Katarina Rostova (Laila Robins) or Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader) tops the list. That said, Liz’s therapist, Dr. Sharon Fulton, opened the door to Liz’s dark side in 2018. Who plays Dr. Fulton and will she return?
Dr. Sharon Fulton’s dark past surfaced in ‘The Blacklist’
For two episodes, Liz endured a Q&A through Dr. Fulton, digging deeper into Liz’s “dark” side and her questionable pursuit of justice — whatever the cost.
However, Dr. Fulton is found to use her privileges to recruit “damaged” agents to seek out and kill serial killers. When Liz gets caught up in tracking down Dr. Fulton after realizing her complicity in a murder, Liz comes to a crossroads of good vs. bad.
In the end, Liz lets Dr. Fulton escape, leaving the door open for her return.
Who plays Dr. Fulton?
The role of nefarious Dr. Sharon Fulton is played by Emmy winner, Martha Plimpton. Many know Plimpton for her work in the 1980s films such as The Goonies, Parenthood, and Running on Empty.
In recent years, Plimpton has appeared on everything from The Real O’Neals, to Raising Hope, and The Good Wife (where she won an Emmy). As the daughter of Madam Secretary star, Keith Caradine
Plimpton also sings, does regular theater work, and is an outspoken advocate for reproductive rights via A Is For, which is an organization of artists “dedicated to advancing reproductive rights and ending the stigma against abortion care.”
Some of Plimpton’s upcoming projects include Mass, opposite Jason Isaacs, and Ann Dowd, and the pilot for the forthcoming dramedy, Generation.
Will Plimpton reprise her role on ‘The Blacklist’ Season 8?
It’s been two seasons since Plimpton appeared on The Blacklist. Since then, a lot has happened with the series — and with Liz. She was reinstated back to the Task Force team. However, once Katarina Rostova popped up, Liz’s alliances with Katarina and Red went to war.
So far, producers haven’t mentioned the possibility of bringing Plimpton back in but never say never. The character wasn’t killed off, leaving plenty of ways to bring Dr. Fulton back in to tempt Liz’s dark side again.
