The Challenge stars Josh Martinez and Devin Walker worked in opposing alliances during season 36. They were both playing decent social games and earned their gold skulls fairly early into the competition. However, a security breach ruined their games as they both landed in the Crater against legendary champions CT Tamburello and Darrell Taylor. Following the episode, the two recently eliminated players appeared on the official aftershow and explained how they could’ve “flipped the game” if they would’ve teamed up in the house.

Josh Martinez and Devin Walker on opposite sides during ‘The Challenge’

Big Brother 19 champ Josh Martinez teamed up with other former BB stars such as BB20 winner Kaycee Clark, Fessy Shafaat, Amber Borzotra, Celebrity Big Brother’s Lolo Jones, and their original partners to form a massive alliance and voting block.

CT Tamburello, who got blindsided into the first elimination, tried to create his own group with Nam Vo, Kyle Christie, and Devin Walker. During the Dec. 23 episode, CT and Kaycee got into a disagreement over the use of an oven, and Josh got involved.

He approached the veteran following the situation and falsely told CT that he made Kaycee cry. Josh then tried to deny what he said, causing a fight.

Shortly later, Devin began taunting the BB19 winner by chanting “Big Brother sucks,” resulting in another heated exchange where security had to intervene.

Josh and Devin sent home together during a double elimination

A few weeks later, after Josh and Devin received their gold skulls, CT and his then-teammate Big T Fazakerley won the daily mission, making them double agents.

Already annoyed with Josh and perceiving him as the biggest layup, the veteran began asking other competitors to make the BB champ the house vote.

However, Josh’s alliance protected him and sent in Devin instead. Before the elimination, a security breach caused a double elimination, with CT having the power to choose both matchups.

He gave Devin the four-time champ Darrell Taylor as asked for and selected Josh for himself. CT and Darrell completed the challenges the fastest, stealing their gold skulls and sending the rivals home together.

Devin says they could’ve ‘flipped the game’ upside down if they teamed up

During the official aftershow following the episode, Devin called him leaving with Josh “Challenge karma” and admitted he thought they “oddly deserved it.”

Additionally, he explained they stayed in the same apartment before flying home together and talked about their performances. The Are You the One star explained they realized they “got played” by players who pitted them against each other and “fueled” their rivalry to make them stand out as targets.

He also noted the two would’ve “flipped the game completely” if they worked together in the competition because they wouldn’t have both landed in the double-elimination.

Instead, their alliance could have taken out a more significant threat for the finals or forced CT to battle a more formidable opponent. The Challenge 36 airs Wednesdays at 8/7 Central on MTV.
