‘The Challenge’: Why Did Leroy and Kam Break Up the First Time?

MTV’s The Challenge: Double Agents was extremely tough on the competitors, but one pairing grew even stronger during the difficult season. Leroy Garrett and Kam Williams proved to be the Challenge couple of the year, as they both made it to the final on separate teams. And their past was referenced during the reunion. So, why did Leroy and Kam break up the first time?

When did Leroy and Kam start dating? MTV’s ‘The Challenge’ couple weren’t serious at first

Leroy played MTV’s The Challenge for years prior to ever meeting Kam. And when they first met, he wasn’t too serious about starting a relationship.

Kam got her start on The Challenge: Vendettas in 2018 — and Leroy was on the same season. They then both competed on War of the World together — and it was War of the Worlds II when their on-and-off relationship started to sound like it was really happening. Prior to War of the Worlds II, Kam and Leroy made it sound as if they’d never get too serious.

So, when did the couple start dating? It’s difficult to say the exact moment, but it was certainly sometime between War of the Worlds II at the end of 2019 and Double Agents in 2021. In February 2020, Kam posted a photo of her and Leroy looking ultra-close. And it seems things really started heating up between them in November 2020, as Kam posted about their big move to Houston, Texas.

“We just signed our lease to move in to our new place in 2 weeks!” Kam captioned the post. “I’m so excited to start this journey with you, especially since it’s something new for the both of us. I didn’t know my life would’ve changed like this when I met you 4 years ago and I’m happy that it did.”

Why did Leroy and Kam break up the first time?

So, what happened with Leroy and Kam at the beginning of their relationship? While they hit it off at first, it seems they broke things off completely the first time because they wanted to focus on MTV’s The Challenge and competing.

Leroy and Kam talked about the beginning of their relationship during The Challenge: Double Agents reunion. And it gave fans an insight into why they broke things off in the first place.

“During the War of the Worlds reunion, you both admitted that becoming romantically involved ruined your friendship,” the host of the reunion said. Then, a clip of Leroy from the War of the Worlds reunion resurfaced.

“The biggest regret I ever had was sleeping with Kam,” Leroy said. “She told me, ‘Leroy, us hooking up, it won’t be good for us. It will end bad.’ And I’m like, ‘No, let’s do it.’ … I never wanted to be disrespectful to Kam.” Leroy then noted he was “completely done” with the relationship at the time.

“It wasn’t obvious?” Kam added at that past reunion.

Are Kam and Leroy still together after ‘Double Agents’?

So, are Kam and Leroy still together after MTV’s The Challenge: Double Agents? They certainly are — and they’re better than ever. During the Double Agents reunion, Leroy noted he started “taking accountability” for his actions, and there was “so much anger and hate” coming from himself and Kam when their relationship initially dissolved. He’s since worked hard to grow as a person and realize what’s important.

“She has, honestly, taught me how to love,” Leroy said. “My biggest thing was, ‘How can I show her that I wanted to commit?’ And I was like, ‘You know what? Let’s move in together.'” Leroy then added he truly is happy and he loves Kam.

“From the bottom of my heart, Kam, you make him such a better man,” Nany González said on the stage through tears.
