MTV’s The Challenge has been on for years, and Tori Deal made a name for herself as an ultra-tough competitor. Recently, she took to her podcast about the show to talk about whether cast members get paid. And she assured listeners she’d never go on the show for free.

Do you get paid to be on MTV’s ‘The Challenge’?

MTV’s The Challenge is one tough game. Competitors from other reality shows like The Real World, Road Rules, Are You the One?, Survivor, and Big Brother compete in physical elimination challenges, create game alliances, and duke it out for a grand prize. While the winners of The Challenge can take home up to $1 million, fans want to know if those competing on the show get paid regardless.

It seems competitors do get paid, but their payment varies. Players who are considered “elite” can bring home up to $80,000 for playing, and other returning players can make anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000 per week. As for the new players, they make much less. Rookies tend to bring home around $1,000 per week.

Challenge veteran Wes Bergmann said MTV doesn’t pay competitors that much, though. “That’s the unfortunate situation for a lot of MTV’s favorite castmembers is The Challenge doesn’t pay enough for it to be a full-time job,” he said. “And MTV can sit around say that it does all they want. It doesn’t.”

Tori is known for her competitive spirit and incredible performances on MTV’s The Challenge. She got her start on Are You the One? and performed quite well during her rookie season, Dirty 30. Not only did she meet her ex-fiancé on the show, but she’s also made it known she’s here to stay and will compete again on future seasons.

Tori co-hosts a podcast with veteran player Aneesa Ferreira where they talk about The Challenge. And Tori made it known she absolutely gets paid to go on the show and would never participate for free.

“Another question that I have been getting a lot, and maybe you have been getting a lot too, is, ‘Do we get paid?'” Tori said on MTV’s Official Challenge Podcast. “I love this question. Don’t know if we can really answer it, but we’ll give you this much. I promise you, we don’t go on the show for free. My a** is not going on a 40-foot platform, hanging over a helicopter, eating cabbage for no reason, OK. You’re gonna pay me. And the more shows we do, the more we get paid.”

Tori’s a veteran player, so there’s no doubt she’s getting a good paycheck. But who’s the highest earner on MTV’s The Challenge? That award goes to Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio.

Johnny’s won seven seasons of The Challenge, which is more than any other player. Screen Rant notes he’s earned around $1.2 million total — and he may come back for more. While he didn’t compete on Double Agents, we suspect there’s a good chance he’ll return to the game in the hopes of another win.

Second to Johnny is Ashley Mitchell. She won $1 million alone in season 32, Final Reckoning, cementing her legacy as “Millionnaire Mitchell.” We’re sure we’ll see her again as well.
