‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’: Ellen DeGeneres Commented on Shia LaBeouf’s ‘Horrible Looking’ Injury
Shia LaBeouf is getting a ton of attention for the allegations set against him by musician FKA Twigs. But prior to the current situation, LaBeouf was renowned for his acting abilities. And he even visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show multiple times to discuss his movies, relationships and injured hand.
Over a decade ago, DeGeneres commented on LaBeouf’s “horrible looking” injury he sustained after a car accident. Here’s what happened.
Shia LaBeouf had a horrible hand injury after a car accident
LaBeouf has had his fair share of on-set accidents, but the injury he sustained on his hand happened off the clock. According to Entertainment Weekly, LaBeouf was involved in a serious car wreck. The other driver ran a red light and crashed into his Ford truck, causing it to flip. In an interview, the actor noted his left hand was out of the window when the crash happened.
While the crash was cited as the other driver’s fault, LaBeouf refused a breathalyzer test and was given a misdemeanor DUI. Fortunately for LaBeouf, he was not prosecuted later due to a lack of evidence. But his license was later suspended months after the accident occurred.
As for the injury, LaBeouf went in for an early-morning surgery on his hand. Just a few weeks later (and against a doctor’s orders), the actor returned to the set of Transformers. Additional surgeries followed after filming wrapped.
Ellen DeGeneres commented on LaBeouf’s ‘horrible looking’ hand
LaBeouf visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show while his fingers were still in a splint after his first hand surgery.
“It hit on her side, so I was extremely fearful of that. And then it was about getting her out, getting the people in the other car out, and only after everything settled, then you realize what’s happened,” LaBeouf explained to DeGeneres. He then added that the other car was traveling at a speed of 70 miles per hour.
“When he passed the red light, my truck flipped twice before landing on my hand,” LaBeouf added. And DeGeneres seemed ultra-concerned by the state of the actor’s fingers.
“And it’s been a few months!” she said. “And it is still horrible looking.”
“Thanks!” LaBeouf laughed.
“I mean, that is not pretty,” the comedian added.
Thankfully, LaBeouf was right-handed, so his dominant hand was still available for use. But he then joked that it was difficult for him to crochet or juggle with the latter being particularly notable since his father was a professional clown.
This is far from LaBeouf’s only headline-making injury
LaBeouf’s hand certainly got the attention of DeGeneres. But that’s not the only time his injuries have made headlines. In 2015, Reuters notes LaBeouf got a head injury while filming American Honey in North Dakota.
“Shia LaBeouf sustained minimal injuries late last night on the set of his current film, American Honey,” said publicist Melissa Kates stated. “As protocol, production sought out medical attention and Shia received stitches on his hand and for a laceration on his head.”
Ultimately, LaBeouf was just fine — but he has greater hurdles to overcome in 2020. FKA Twigs and Sia have both stepped out and made statements regarding the actor’s abusive behaviors. So far, LaBeouf has acknowledged Twigs’ statements and stated he’s been abusive to others and himself “for years.” We’ll continue to see how this unfolds.
