One Direction will always have a strong fan base, though it seems the boy band is now completely divided. While Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne are still friendly, many of them are pursuing music careers on their own accord. And Styles is getting a ton of attention for his hit album, Fine Line.

Styles discussed his album on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. And he admitted he was nervous his fans would ditch him completely after One Direction separated.

Styles is gaining more attention than ever before. Not only is his hit music resonating with fans young and old, but he’s also breaking gender norms by posing in dresses during photo shoots. And his growing popularity certainly gives him a seat on The Ellen DeGeneres Show whenever he’d like to visit.

In 2019, DeGeneres told Styles she was a huge fan of him when he visited the show. “I’m telling you guys, if you haven’t heard it yet, it is so good,” DeGeneres said of his album. “It’s amazing. I’m so happy for you.”

Styles then explained he went to Japan for a month by himself, and that helped him write his album. And DeGeneres then brought up the photos that were included with Styles’ album — and one showed him totally naked. According to the singer, he started the photoshoot fully clothed, but the photographer eventually whittled down his clothing until nothing was left for the perfect shot.

Styles admitted he was concerned he wouldn’t have fans after leaving One Direction

Toward the end of the interview with DeGeneres, she mentioned how Styles has found great success since leaving One Direction behind.

“It has been unbelievably successful,” DeGeneres noted. “And especially, like I said, this is going to be No. 1 this week. Aren’t you just — aren’t you so proud of yourself? Aren’t you so happy?”

“I’m very happy,” Styles verified. But he then noted he wasn’t so sure he’d find the success he now has. “I think coming out of that, I kind of tried to remind myself before getting any expectations that you can’t … just not assuming anything. Like, I don’t know if the people are going to come because it’s not the band anymore, stuff like that.”

Now, Styles knows he can achieve success all on his own — and it makes him “really happy.”

“It makes me feel, obviously, very great that people seem to be enjoying the music,” Styles added.

It’s clear Styles is finding his path without One Direction. And we can’t forget the time he noted the “tension” in the room when he arrived on The Ellen DeGeneres Show years ago with the band.

When Styles arrived with his bandmates, there were only four of them on the show instead of five. And that’s because Malik left the band by this point. And DeGeneres brought it up.

“Now, did you know that Zayn leaving would be the story that it became, like such a huge story?” DeGeneres asked. “I mean, it’s a big story. Did you know for awhile? Did he talk about it for awhile, that he was leaving?”

“I think we kind of had — had a feeling, you know,” Tomlinson noted after some awkward silence. “I don’t really know.”

After that, Styles laughed. And when DeGeneres asked why he was laughing, he answered, “Because … you could cut the tension in here.”

It seems all the One Direction stars are happier on their own. And we’re excited to see what Styles does next.
