The season 2 finale of The Flight Attendant seemed to do the impossible. The episode managed to tie up all of the loose threads created during the season’s eight-episode run, but it left plenty of room for the writers should a season 3 happen. According to showrunner, Steve Yockey, that was the goal. He insists that there is plenty of stories still left to tell, but they ended the season in a way that it could be the end. So, is a third season an option? There seem to be some differing opinions.

Steve Yockey thinks there is still more to Cassie’s story

The Flight Attendant wrapped its second season, but it has yet to be greenlit for a third. That’s not a surprise. It can take HBO Max weeks or months to get everyone on board for another season. It took months for the streaming giant to announce the second season of the Sex and the City reboot. Steve Yockey, The Flight Attendant’s showrunner, is ready if more is an option. He believes there is plenty of action left for another season, or even more.

Yockey sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss the series, and he made it clear that there are still stories for Cassie out there. He credits the way the show is written for that. Yockey noted that each season is being treated independently, so if the series ends, fans will be satisfied. That strategy frees up the writers to develop an entirely new story for the following season, if there is one. Whether there actually will be one remains unknown.

Kaley Cuoco might not want to return for a third season of ‘The Flight Attendant’

While Yockey is open to returning for a third season, Kaley Cuoco isn’t entirely sold on the notion. In fact, Cuoco recently revealed that she would be OK with ending the series right now. In a recent interview with People, Cuoco said, “There’s definitely interest in doing a third season. I think for me, at this moment, the plane has landed.” She noted that she seems to be the odd one out with her feelings but didn’t completely write off the possibility. Cuoco said she could change her mind.

Cuoco’s feelings are more than a bit surprising. After all, she was the mastermind behind the series. Cuoco once explained that she saw the cover for the book that inspired The Flight Attendant and immediately told her lawyers to option it. Cuoco was initially terrified that someone else had already gotten to the project. She pushed for the series hard, so hearing her say she’s ready to say goodbye is shocking.

If a third season does happen, Kaley Cuoco knows what it would be about

Cuoco might not be completely sold on the idea of returning for a third installment of the HBO Max original. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t have opinions about what story the series should tell if a season 3 does happen.

While speaking to People, Cuoco noted that if a third season of The Flight Attendant does happen, it should focus on Cassie’s sobriety and struggles. She doesn’t know where the third season would be set, though. Maybe a far-flung location would help convince Cuoco to sign up to play Cassie just one more time.
