Dr. Alex Park is a former police officer who decided to change careers and become a physician. He served in the police department for 15 years. He has a son named Kellan, but they aren’t on the best terms. Kellan feels like Alex’s attention is focused on his job, and he doesn’t believe his father truly cares about him.

At the end of The Good Doctor Season 3 finale, Alex calls his ex-wife Mia and says he wants to move back home so he can be closer to her and their son. The earthquake and the experience of witnessing a teenager (Casey Taylor) dying was too much to bear. Casey almost died thinking his father would hate him if confessed he knew about his mother’s prescription drug addiction but didn’t say anything.

Alex’s interaction with Casey made him think of his own son and their relationship. He took that situation as a sign it’s time to rebuild his relationship with Kellan. At this time, it’s unclear if Alex will return to San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital.

Lee tells TV Insider he enjoys working on The Good Doctor because the show doesn’t put an emphasis on race or gender. The stories focus on the people and the issues they’re dealing with. Lee compliments creator David Shore for his ability to produce a show that appeals to so many people, regardless of background or gender identity.

“What’s amazing about it is David Shore created this world where race or gender is not the focus,” says Lee. It’s a TV show about humans and hope. There have been so many projects I’ve been cast in where if my character exists in this world, it’s because I’m Asian.”
