During The Good Doctor Season 4, Episode 8 (titled “Parenting”) Lea’s parents decide to visit. When Lea learns that her parents will be coming over, she’s not thrilled. They usually criticize the people she dates and ask questions that make them uncomfortable.

Lea has to go as far as providing Shaun (Freddie Highmore) with a list of topics to avoid during their dinner conversation. Some of the topics on the list include California lettuce, the 1985 NBA draft lottery, and drummers. She says the list is long, so there’s likely much more than that on her “avoid” list.

Before the dinner, Shaun practices with Glassman (Richard Schiff) and Morgan (Fiona Gubelman). However, Glassman later tells Shaun there’s no way he can really prepare for how these types of dinners can go wrong. Lea’s parents might ask questions Shaun can’t answer.

“The real problem isn’t going to be small talk and family bickering,” says Glassman. “The real problem is what happens when Lea’s parents express real concerns about their daughter?”

Shaun asks Glassman what concerns might come up. “Concerns any parent would have,” replies Glassman. “You two barely know each other. You haven’t been dating very long and now you’re living together. This relationship is moving too fast.”
